Overview

Having evolved from power pop to heavier rock back to melodic modern fare, Sanctus Real blend the styles of their previous two efforts on The Face of Love. The quartet takes listeners on a journey to a sonic realm of introspection, restlessness, and unresolved pondering as only they can do. If you swirled together Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown, Jars of Clay's Good Monsters and U2's How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, the concoction would sound much like this. The influences don't stop there, as traces of Dashboard Confessional, Nine Days, Jeremy Camp, Mae, and others blend seamlessly together. The impetus for a more mid-tempo, insightful record came as band members dealt with difficult circumstances in their personal lives. Drummer Mark Graalman's father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away merely two months later. Original bass player Steve Goodrum was replaced by Dan Gartley. And vocalist Matt Hammitt's grandmother passed away after an ordeal in hospice care. This explains the unsettledness of Face of Love and the absence of more peppy material to rival the hooks on their debut Say It Loud. Still, Hammitt's vocals are so rich and mature that he could practically sing a computer owner's manual to rave reviews. Producer Chris Stevens (Shawn McDonald, Tobymac) was a catalyst in evoking the boys' raw emotions both lyrically and musically. The challenge in presenting this personal material came in meeting expectations of another rock-hard outing.

Sanctus Real's third album, I'm Not Alright is amazing. It is definitely the most lyrically and musically advanced work the guys have put out so far. A perfect blend of harder rock with more mellow tunes, this album is sure to fit whatever mood you are in. Upbeat and uplifting, this cd gets five stars from me.

sanctus has changed the way i listen to this style of music. they've always given like a "feel good" sound, but what sets them apart is writing about SPECIFIC life-changing topics. THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING YOU WILL NOT STOP LISTENING!

Sanctus is an awesome band and this CD is totally up to par, if not well exceeding that mark. I've seen them perform two tracks from the album live recently: "I'm Not Alright" and "Don't Give Up" (which happen to be my favorite tunes on the album). They have meanful lyrics, driving guitar riffs as always, and they are just downright good people. Check em out!! peace

i've always been a huge fan of sanctus real and this cd is the best one yet. the new hit I'm Not Alright (first track) opens with guitar intro, leads into the awesome vocals of matt and provides something to relate to with the band. the guys really pulled through again putting their entire heart and feelings of how life is going into The Face of Love. If you have yet to experience Sanctus Real you are really missing out! This cd is very powerful and has a great new sound.

This CD definitely differs quite a bit from Sanctus Real's prior albums. However, being the fan that I've always been, I wasn't the least bit dissappointed in this new album. I actually liked it quite a bit for its new sound and maturing style.

WOWIE!!! just that...WOW!!! Sanctus Real BLEW ME AWAY! Now I have to admit and be honest, I wasn't a big Sanctus Real fan before, but now I just can't get enough! They are definitely up there with the big shots in the Christian pop/rock categorie (Switchfoot,etc.). TOTALLY recommended!

Sanctus Real's new CD "The Face Of Love" is an incredible combination of musical talent and ingenius songwriting that will only leave you wanting to hear it over and over again. From the spiritual aspects of this album that can be heard in songs such as "Thank You" to the general message of love found in "Don't Give Up," the album covers a wide range of topics that will challenge, inspire, and encourage you all at the same time. However, Sanctus Real does not show any fear of touching hard topics as they prove in "I'm Not Alright" and "Benjamin." But while relating to and singing about the hardships in life, Sanctus Real brings a message of hope and love that anyone of any background or age group can connect with. So if you're looking for an album that will rock your face off, but is still real and deep, I definitely recommend Sanctus Real's "The Face Of Love"!

This is the newest cd from sanctus real, though the style has changed a little bit, i enjoy every song on the cd, including the slow ones. The lyrics are still deep and very meaningful and give a good message to teenagers and such and they spread the word of God throughout this entire cd. 'Im not alright' I believe speaks to many teens who go through a rough time and Sanctus real really does a good job in trying to help them through the song. overall i feel that this cd is a milestone for the band, something to look back on and be very proud of, it is amazingly good.

If you like the sound of Switchfoot, U2, Mae, downhere, Coldplay, Kevin Max, and Luna Halo, then you'll enjoy this album. The Face of Love is better than the previous cd's put out by Sanctus Real, they have a geat rockin' sound, and heartfelt real lyrics. They have two solid albums under their belt ("Say It Loud" and "Fight The Tide"), their newest album proves their staying power in an industry that continues to grow and change. These guys are awesome and I totally recommend this album!

The Face of Love is an amazing album. The music is a step up from Fight The Tide (the band's previous release) you can tell the band members are continually maturing their skills. The lyrics, while darker than the band's previous releases, are honest, mature, and real. I love that I can relate to so many of the songs, yet they also help push me to new places. There is a nice mix of up-beat rockin' tunes ("Don't Give Up", "Possibilites", "We're Trying"), and some quieter moments as well ("Benjamin", "The Face of Love"). I definitely recommend this album to anyone looking for a solid rock album.

This release is possibly the best yet from Sanctus Real! Every song rocks, and the great (slightly edgy and oh-so-good) sound is paired with stellar lyrics. From the openess of "I'm Not Alright" to the sorrow and hope of "Benjamin," this album is fabulous! Some of the best tracks are "I'm Not Alright," "The Face of Love," "Don't Give Up," and "We're Trying." This is a must-have for the music listener! This band is one to watch--and listen to.

Sanctus Real captured me with Say It Loud and Fight the Tide, but this caps it. The songs are powerful with awesome lyrics and incredible sound. I totally reccomend this CD. It is worth the money.
