Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
From Cinderella to Rumpelstiltskin, this small paper-over-board collection--part of Scholastic’s growing array of gifty, retro-styled books on the games, rhymes, and activities of yesteryear--contains variations of the original tales of such famous storytellers as the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Favorites like The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, and the Twelve Dancing Princesses are joined by such lesser-known stories as East of the Sun, West of the Moon and The Brave Little Tailor. The retellings are tidy and traditional, qualities that are highlighted by the delicate illustrations and borders that frame each tale. Also available: The Bedtime Story Book. All ages. (Aug.)
Children's Literature - Bobbie Lowe
We all have grown up with fairy tales. From Rumpelstiltskin to Jack in the Beanstalk, these stories have been a fixture in the childhoods of many people across the world. The Fairy Tale Book has combined twenty of these legendary fairy tales into one book, each having its own chapter. The illustrations are simple, yet beautiful, all in black and white. Each page has a drawn border around the text that adds to the fairy tale essence of this book. I enjoyed discovering tales I had never heard of while revisiting my old favorites, like "The Little Mermaid" and "Snow White." The text size is somewhat smaller and with the black and white illustrations, it seems more appropriate for slightly older readers. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to revisit an important part of their childhood or who wants to bring to life classic fairy tales to a child who still has yet to explore them.
