The answer, as Jack Patton learned from his father Ray at an early age, is just 270... the key is making sure they’re the right 270 votes. Specifically, the 270 votes belonging to members of the electoral college--the only people in the country whose votes directly decide the presidential election.
The Honorable Ray Patton served as a judge and political party leader in Nobles, the tiny Texas town where Jack was raised. Jack, on the other hand, left politics behind--along with his father--when he moved to Austin for a different kind of life. When Ray passes away, Jack comes up with a plan to honor his father in a way that respects his legacy: by becoming one of the select few chosen as a presidential elector.
