The Fall of Five is the fourth novel in the New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series by Pittacus Lore. The Garde are finally reunited, but do they have what it takes to win the war against the Mogadorians?

John Smith—Number Four—thought that things would change once the Garde found one another. But he was wrong. After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being annihilated, the Garde know they are drastically unprepared. Now they're hiding out in Nine's Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move.

The six of them are powerful, but they're not strong enough yet to take on an entire army—even with the return of an old ally. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. More important, they'll have to discover the truth about the Elders and their plan for the Loric survivors.

And when the Garde receive a sign from Number Five—a crop circle in the shape of a Lorien symbol—they know they are close to being reunited. But could it be a trap? Time is running out, and the only thing they know for certain is that they have to get to Five before it's too late.

Editorial Reviews

Somehow the Garde narrowly survived the onslaughts recounted so vividly in The Rise of Nine, but disorganized and outnumbered, they realize that they might have just postponed their annihilation. To save earth from the ruthless Mogadorian hordes, they must match the powers and cleverness of their oppressors and fight for a better day. A new installment of one of the most popular teen fantasy adventure series.

“There’s genuine suspense…it’s easy to get lost in the world of the sweet teen from another planet.”
“Terrifically propulsive.”

Kirkus Reviews
"Lore" (aka James Frey) moves his ponderous, jumbled science-fiction epic forward an inch by dropping a traitor into the band of superpowered refugees charged with saving Earth from evil aliens. The tale has already become so complicated that even confirmed series fans may welcome the long, sluggish stretches of hanging out, fretting, flirting, bickering and undisguised recaps. These are packed in between the paltry number of violent but widely spaced encounters with brutish Mogadorian invaders. Here, the already indigestibly large cast of teenage Loriens and their human helpers gains three and loses one as two chancy new allies, multiple gems with mystical properties, prophetic visions of terrifying doom, ravening monsters, mysterious scars and hints of new powers arrive to add more flimsy trinkets to the literary flea market. Confusingly, three of the Loriens switch off as first-person narrators but are given (whether from authorial inertia or incompetence) indistinguishable voices. Following the climactic denouement, the young heroes end up more or less where they were in the previous episode: split up and on the run. Sample chapters, not labeled as such, from three spinoff novellas are appended. Likely headed for the best-seller lists--but not on its merits. (Science fiction. 12-14)

The Fall of Five 4.4 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 286 reviews.

It pains me to leave a mediocre review for a book series that i have come to love, but the fact remains that this installment pales in comparison to its predecessors. I finished this book extremely fast because it was without a doubt the shortest installment of the main series. The story line lacked the action pack, suspense filled writing that fans have come to know and love from this series. I hope that the next installment will be better than this one.

This book was an overall good read. However it was not the best in this wonderful series. The book was mostly just a filler book trying to transition between the battle in New Mexico to what the future may bring. The point of view changed constantly but I kind of liked that. The story was told through the perspectives of John, Sam and Marina and it was easy to identify whose eyes we were looking through. The changing views really helped to move the story along. There were a lot of love scenes that I didn't particularly like except for the ones between Marina and Eight. What this book really lacked was an epic fight scene at the end. The previous books all ended with a huge battle (Paradise High School, West Virginia/Spain, New Mexico). Although this ending didn't go out with a huge battle it did leave you with a cliffhanger and an immensely sad loss.  Overall, I enjoyed this book and it leaves me waiting for book five.

Just finished the whole book in one night. Not good but not bad either. It's like a filler book. 70% dull and about their love stories, 30% about the main storyline. The only parts that has an impact were the last parts. Sad though, too much questions left unanswered when you reach the end. For me, It didn't deserve my one-year wait. Too short

This was a great new installment in the series, and satisfied my hunger for more of the series. However, the point of view changes frequently which is quite annoying at some times, but keeps you on your toes. Also, this is a very short book. So short, it took me about two hours to read, and then afterwords it leaves you with a cliff hanger which makes you want to throw the book and the wall in frustration that you have to wait another year for the next book. This book was just way too short..

What happened?!? Every book leading up to this was adventurous, action packed, information filled. This one fell flat, almost empty even. Yeah there was some good moments but the rest of the time I just wished I was done reading it. If this is how the rest of the series is going to run, please just finish it. If you plan on writing in your old format and making it the best it could be then by all means continue but a bunch of dialogue and vague character descriptions in which you can guess their interior motives means nothing to me but a bunch of yawns. It pains me to rate this low when I have always rate a 4/5 on the series but well that's what it deserves.

I stayed up all night to finish it. A fun and exciting new chapter of the story. I won't spoil anything but the end is exciting, the next book should be great. I haven't decoded it yet.

The novellas were more satisfying read than this filler. The characters lacked further development. Sarah is the most annoying female  character i' ve ever read. She's much too weak and one dimensional.

Sorry i usually rate books by him a five but it disappointed me. I know there were parts about love in the previous books but this was so mushy. Most of the time i was like,"get back to the action!" But my favorite perpestive was Marina's. But overall this story is heartbreaking because of the ending. Can't wait for book 5!

The Fall of Five continues the high action story of the Lorians among us. Finding Five creates complex situations for the other Lorians. Now I can't wait for the next installment.

I like the book but i dont like is how they keep streching out the series.....

I enjoyed this book but was unsatisfied with the ending. Spoiler alert: when Marina does the freezy thing with eight after he diea do you think he might come back to life and get healed? Youre probably thinking tough luck but having a legacy thay brings people back to life would be very powerful amd possibly their only chance at defeating Setrakus Ra. If they found 1 2 and 3s bodies they could heal them aand they could heal the Cepans. I really dont think the author would kill off eigt so easily is what im saying. Just an idea. Anyways pretty good book...this is my only concern.

Like most people have been saying, this is a filler book, which I found very annoying. If you're going to release a filler book, make sure you do so 3-4 months before you release the upcoming one. Because filler books leave people kind of empty handed and authors tend to lose fans at a faster rate. I am still a fan of this series of course, despite the nauseating ongoing romance with Four and Sarah. Can I just comment on how needy they are? It's gross and redundant. If anything, Four needs a more relevant love interest and I truly thought something was going to happen with Six--she is a better match in my opinion. Five's little "twist" story was actually predictable, the way he was introduced into the series was just weak and it seemed as if the author just threw it up at last minute.. Eight's death was devastating and I really wish it hadn't been his end. I would have wanted to see something more spark between him and Seven. Oh! Another thing that sort of pushes my buttons, why keep a human name? I mean some of the garde haven't kept their human names so what is the point of keeping them. I get the it's supposed to let "John" have a solid identity but he already has one. Wouldn't it be cool if unlocking their real names is some last piece of the puzzle or some element like that. I have really thought about this. Twist endings are my favorite, if they are set up phenomenally. Like, what if there was more to the Loric battle than any of the garde or mogadorians think? What if, to preserve the species, not only did the loric rely on the nine garde but maybe...idk finally writing this theory out feels weird and not all together but like maybe they "preserved" some loric people. Haha like kept them frozen. That would give the garde a bigger army and a better chance of reproducing in Lorien. It's a theory..

It is books like this (well, this series actually but, more than any other, this particular book) that make me wish the author would not publish any books until every book in the series was written so I would not have to wait a whole year! If you can ignore the crappy romance element, the action is riveting though the majority of it was not shocking twist the author intended. Foreshadowing is not the same as subtle nuance. But you have to read this!

Six is the best heroine i have ever read about. Four is the one i most look forward to reading about. Sam is the best sidekick ever. Please read this series, its the best!

If your trying to read this make sure you read the secret files and first books too because if you dont youll be confused. Personally i liked the book. All of the characters come together and everybodys happy. We get a new intresting character and some kick ass action scenes. Some romance which i guess was intresting accept that i dont like sarah and then you get sad maybe cry a few times and then your dream comes true with the last paragraph
