Overview

The longer a musical style remains popular, the more bands seem to latch onto its recognizable formula. In the late '90s and early 21st century, the mainstream suddenly decided that heavy metal was back in style again, and welcomed with open arms bands that merged extreme metal (as evidenced by death metal drumming and growled vocal verses), and melodic metal (sweetly sung choruses). And you could say that All That Remains is definitely a supporter of this well-worn style, as evidenced by their third release overall, 2006's The Fall of Ideals (which was produced by a gentleman who is also a champion of the aforementioned sonic approach -- Killswitch Engage's Adam Dutkiewicz). On such tracks as "It Dwells in Me," it turns out that guitarists Mike Martin and Oli Herbert definitely have a thing for Metallica and Iron Maiden, as evidenced by their chug-a-lug riffs, and intricate dual harmony guitar lines and leads. But on tracks such as "Whispers (I Hear Your)," there's just not a lot differentiating All That Remains from the oodles of other metal bands vying for Ozzfest spots circa 2006.

I bought this cd because I heard the song "six" off of Guitar Hero 2. Stunningly, I was amazed at such awesome guitar, lyrics and singing. This is the most gloomy, yet still uplifting heavy rock band I've ever heard. If you like any Metal-Core bands, you will love these guys.

I recently went to a concert and All That Remains was an opening act. I'd never heard of them until then and the show was INCREDIBLE! I bought this cd at the show and i am now a huge fan! The Fall Of Ideals is one of the best cd's i've ever heard. I would recommend this cd to anyone that's a metal-core fan. Heavy riffs and great vocals!

I recently reviewed All That Remains' 4th album Overcome, and realized that, although this album is one I bought quite a while before Overcome, it is my absolute favorite by All That Remains thus far, and the album that originally got me into them, so I simply had to come back on here and review this one too. If you love heavy/thrash metal stuff, then this band is right up your ally...and this is the album to check out first! Words cannot express how utterly cool this CD is! It's a near flawless metal album in my opinion. All That Remains is one of the first groups I heard when I was first getting into metal music, this album in particular, and it really helped in giving me a new found love for the genre...amongst the likes of Metallica, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, War of Ages, etc. Friends...if you are into metal music and are not all that familiar with these guys, then you simply must check them out...starting with this album! Go and pick it up! It's sensational!
