Fueled by heavy dance tracks and popping electronic beats, The Fame, the first album by the glamorous Lady Gaga, is a well-crafted sampling of feisty anti-pop in high quality. Already a famous female DJ in her own right, Lady Gaga (nee Stefani Germanotta) pulls out all the stops on The Fame, injecting hard-hitting synthesizers and crashing slicks and grooves. From its opening track until it closes, The Fame fails to come up short on funky sounds to amuse fans of this dance genre. All Music Guide - Matthew Chisling
However, what carries this album to new heights is the combination of voice and the razor sharp lyrics which accompany it. Gaga's sound is no different than that of Gwen Stefani, however her coy delivery of each cooing note gives the album a laid-back slick feeling of ease, which meshes with the dramatic beats that back the album up. In addition, the lyrics which feed the album, especially on the desirous "Paparazzi" or the boastful, vain "Beautiful Dirty Rich," salt and pepper the album with a nasty, club-friendly feeling of fun and feistiness that an excellent, well-produced dance album should have. The lyrics are not any more deliciously entertaining than they are on the title track, which feeds the listener savory lines like "Give me something I wanna be, retro glamour, Hollywood yes we live for the fame." There are a couple of missteps, such as the rock-tinged non-dance piano track "Again Again" (which would be a nice track had it not been sandwiched between such meaty ones). Plus, the The Fame has it's "ballad," however the breezy "Eh, Eh" doesn't hold water on this album; rather, it feels dry and lifeless, something which holds this album back; however, the infectious "Poker Face" and title track which follow it successfully rejuvenate the vibe on the album for its second half. Gaga has stated that the eighth track on each release of the album will be different, however "Money Honey," is a galactic number susceptible to comparisons to the album's lead single, the well-known summer smash hit "Just Dance." That's not necessarily a bad thing, since the lead single is a powerhouse of dance waves and infectiously produced beats, but the album doesn't always stand out as definitive, even though it's consistently fresh and innovative. As the album winds down, the tracks start to slow down, but Gaga's frosty tones and sickly hooks end the album satisfyingly. Ultimately, the beats need to end up repeating themselves in places, but in the long-haul, The Fame is in excellent standing for establishing Lady Gaga with a solid career.

    Great dance music

Lady Gaga's voice is very powerful, I loved all the songs on the CD, it pumps me up when I listen to it, there are also a couple of slower songs that I found to be mesmerizing.

    More Than Expected

I bought this CD for just one song, Just Dance, and surprisingly found that almost all of the songs became instant favorites. I like the mix of Pop, R&B, and Techno that Lady Gaga puts in her music.

Lady GaGa is a producer/singer who really knows her stuff. Maybe a little to well...

When I first heard her single "Just Dance" I just thought it was another pop song about nothing, but then the more I listened to it the more I liked it. That's what happened with the other tracks on her album that I liked. The only amazing tracks are "Just Dance," "The Fame," and "Paper Gangsta," but other than that it's all okay, or just bad. I really want a new dance album to listen to, and Lady GaGa was SO close, but she feel short in the most important aspect: authenticity. When I listen to most of the songs it just feels as though that every aspect of the song was perfectly produced and placed in a certain way to make it the most appealing and most hit-making. I just don't feel anything real from Lady GaGa. And since the main themes of her album are fame and money, it sort of makes sense that she's only "doin' it for the fame" as she sings in one of the good songs on her album "The Fame." Another issue is a clash between her vocals, lyrics, and sound in most of the songs. A lot of songs that otherwise would have been good turn sour because the vocal melody totally ruins the whole mood of the song. If there were an instrumental version it would be great, but sadly there isn't. And good beats are not the only part of a song. She also switches moods entirely from the verse to the chorus, which takes any flow the song had out right away. The best examples of those problems are in "Paparazzi," "Poker Face," "Money Honey," and especially "Boys Boys Boys."<BR/>All being said, if you're looking for a dance album just to play at a party and not really listen to, then go ahead, get the album. But if you're looking for something of real substance then keep on looking because you won't find that with Lady GaGa.

    Appropriately Titled

Lady Gaga rose to fame with this album and it's not hard to tell why. The Fame is an almost perfect pop album and a perfect debut for Gaga. I love every song on it. Paper Gangsta, The Fame & Beautiful, Dirty, Rich are stand outs for me. I can't help but get excited anytime a track from The Fame plays, even if I've heard it a thousand times which I'm pretty sure I have.

    Great Beat!

I love this cd to listen to while on the treadmill. All the tracks have a great beat, something to work out to, or yes even dance to. I can see this being big on the club scene. I bought this after listening to the little 30 second previews, and was greatly impressed. I love this disc!

    Lady GaGa Yah Yah

With strong pop/dance artists like Kylie Minogue, Madonna and Gwen Stefani etc. breathing down the necks of new artists, the competition would find it hard pressed to survive in the game. Luckily for Lady Gaga she is her own music factory, wearing many hat as producer/arranger/dj/main artist. This is a good thing because she has full control of her own sound so things stay fresh and untainted by the industry. I'm a Kylie Minogue fan so before I had a good listen to Lady Gaga's album "The Fame," I thought to myself, o.k. here's another cheesy American pop album with nothing offer except a hit single which will be worn out before it's time. I was proven wrong. After listening to the album straight through, I've already came to the conclusion that this was going to be a fun album. The energy is high the tracks are original and it doesn't quit. Except for a couple of misplaced songs that felt like they were last minute add-ons or left over bonus tracks, the album as a whole is coherent and interesting to listen to. If this album holds up over time and Lady Gaga continues to craft her own unique brand of music her debut will become a treasure in the dance/pop world and she would have created a huge following. Kinda like Kylie Minogue. Fun album. I love dance music, I miss the 80's.
