Meet the Author

Martin Handford, the man behind the mind-boggling Waldo books, began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes. "I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Waldo has taken on a life of his own," he says. "I’d like to inspire children to open their minds to explore subjects more, to be aware of what’s going on around them. I’d like them to see wonder in places that may not have occurred to them." Martin Handford lives in England.

    We LOVE mini Waldo Books!

Unlike the previous reviewer we knew this was a mini book. I bought my 7 year old daughter's copy from her school's book fair and she has had many hours of fun searching for Waldo (and friends) with and without the plastic magnifying glass. There have been MANY times in 'waiting' situations where I have turned around only to find her searching for Waldo. Her teacher liked my DD's little book so much that she special ordered one from B&N to keep in their classroom. The mini books are perfect for littler hands, purses, and backpacks or bags. THESE BOOKS ARE REALLY WORTH THEIR SMALL PRICE!

    Tiny Little Book

I ordered this thinking it was one of the wonderful Waldo books my kids grew up with, only to find it's a tiny little thing. It comes with its own magnifying lens - a piece of plastic maybe 2x3 inches. Without the lens the book is useless, you can't make out any of the figures, never mind finding solitary Waldo. Having said that, I found Waldo in two of the pictures in under a minute each. However, I am solidly middle aged now; if I were a child I would have given up after a few seconds. Besides, half the fun of the books is looking at the complex pictures and looking at everything, not just Waldo. The size of this book just makes everything look blurry. I am going to give this book to the seven-year old for whom it was intended, but only because there are a few other birthday books to go with it. On it's own, it would have been a return or a throw-away.
