The how-to universe is rife with approaches to overcoming the fear of flying. Hartman and Huffaker begin with an examination of the underlying anxieties that trigger that fear. Writing in a bright, even chatty manner, they reccomend understanding the factors that contribute to the fear, self-help techniques for relaxation and rest, and proven strategies for maximizing the flier's comfort when choosing what to eat and where to sit on the plane. Their tips about luggage management, dealing with "difficult passengers," and passengers' rights are also helpful, and the sections about flying with children and children flying alone contain important information for parents. If followed, their suggestions may make flying a better experience even for experienced fliers, who will profit from tips about navigating security checkpoints with computers, maintaining correct posture to prevent backaches, and avoiding jet lag. Highly readable and well organized, this is a dandy little travel adviser.

    easy way to better flying

    This is a very well rounded general book for the nervous flyer -- of which I am one. It is reassuring and knowledgeable. The part that deals with the fear itself is extremely helpful. And the practical hints are handy tool. I have gone back to Hartman's soothing voice many times and have become a much more confident and relaxed traveler as a result. I recommend it.
