Editorial Reviews

VOYA
The job search is never easy. For young people still working out their place in the world, it can be a daunting task. Regrettably students looking for help on that journey will struggle to find it in this book. Teens accustomed to nonfiction books as vibrant and interactive as Web sites will find this book's large pages of straight text visually unappealing and difficult to wade through. Sound ideas such as networking and job shadowing are lost amidst Hinds's uninspired suggestions and lackluster writing. Hinds, a professional rTsumT writer, frequently advises job seekers to hire professionals to help with the various stages of their search. This suggestion is unrealistic for many teens and comes across as self-serving and an easy way out for the author. Students working on rTsumTs or cover letters may be interested in the multitude of samples included in the book. But because professional rTsumT writers created the samples, duplicating the effect might prove difficult for teens lacking advanced writing and computer skills. Libraries with strong career education collections may want this title strictly for the sample rTsumTs and cover letters, but there is nothing here that is not already in many collections.
