The final adventure in bestselling author Patrick Carman's delightfully wacky Floors trilogy!

Taking mystery and adventure to the next level.

It's not every day that a hotel loses its top floor. Then again, the Whippet Hotel is no stranger to wackiness. So when the entire floor is hoisted into the night sky by a nearly invisible airship, Leo and Remi know they're in for the ride of their lives.

But little do the boys know just how amazing their voyage will become. They are headed to the field of wacky inventions, where they will have to compete against a number of foes for an incredible prize.

It will take all of Leo and Remi's bravery, skill, and burping power to decode the outrageous puzzles hidden among the floors of Merganzer D. Whippet's newest and most peculiar construction. But they must -- because if they don't, they'll lose their beloved Whippet Hotel forever.

Gr 4–6—In this final installment (Scholastic, 2013) of the "Floors" trilogy, Leo and Remi find themselves wrapped up in their craziest Merganzer D. Whippet adventure yet. After flying on an airship to the Field of Wacky Inventions, they face off against each of Merganzer's other hotel managers. The prize? The opportunity to run all of the hotels in the Whippet Empire. Leo and Remi want to be the last ones standing, but first they must unlock the secrets of a hotel floor filled with tiny dinosaurs and make their way through a sinister amusement park-themed floor. Narrator Jesse Bernstein does a phenomenal job of bringing this magical story to life. He reads each character with a different voice, and his pacing is excellent. His experience narrating the previous two titles in this series means he has each character's unique quirks pegged, and their personalities comes across quite clearly. Although the books in this series are best read in order, both girls and boys will get caught up in the twists and turns of this wacky, fast-paced final installment.—Anne Bozievich, Friendship Elementary School, Glen Rock, PA
From the Publisher

Praise for FLOORS:

"Carman has not only created a beguiling building but populated it with a sympathetic company of oddfellows, plus a few nefarious creatures . . . Readers will come to feel totally invested in the hotel, just as they will come to love Leo . . ." -- KIRKUS REVIEWS

"Carman delivers a madcap mystery reminiscent of Roald Dahl and Ellen Raskin, complete with bizarre inventions, a mystery involving a missing billionaire and his fortune, and even a crazy elevator or two." -- PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

"This story will tug at the imagination of any readers with a healthy appetite for adventure." -- SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

"Mixing mystery; colorfully drawn, offbeat characters; and some Willy Wonka - evoking flourishes, this series starter offers an absorbing, entertaining read with an appealing and sympathetic protagonist. Fantastical inventions and humorous scenarios abound, but the story also sensitively explores themes of loss, healing, and family." -- BOOKLIST

Gr 3–6—In this conclusion to the humorous series, two boys find themselves on a hotel roof that has floated through the sky and landed in the Field of Wacky Inventions. Eleven-year-olds Remi and Leo soon discover that this is all just a part of zany hotel mogul Merganzer Whippet's new plan. Whippet, who has led them on whirlwind adventures before, has devised a contest to see who will run his hotels. Using some of his most fantastic inventions, the boys must compete against rival hotel managers to find the clues that will help put them all of the gadgets together and stack the floors into a new hotel. This is a fast-paced, funny, and charming book that is ideal for engaging reluctant readers. Filled with quirky characters, made up words (glooooob!), and marvelous rooms, kids will want to follow Remi and Leo on their adventure to the very end. While it can certainly be enjoyed as a stand alone, kids will want to read the first two so that all of the moving parts can finally come together and pay off.—Kerry Roeder, Professional Children's School, New York City

What fun! What fun! What fun! The Field of Wacky Inventions by Patrick Carman is an amazingly fun book to read and filled with great imagination. This is the final book in “The Floors triology” by Mr. Carman and it is as exciting as the first two. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and am a little sad to see it end. While targeted for upper middle school and higher, anyone who just wants a fun book to read would enjoy this series and in particular this last book. To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. Highly recommend!! DISCLOSURE: A complimentary copy was provided to us by Scholastic in exchange for our honest review. Opinions expressed are solely those of the reviewer.
