Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
This book has a wonderful message about teamwork. Moccasin Danny tells the compelling story of his childhood hockey team and the odds that it defied to win a league championship. Danny can't wear skates because his leg is crippled, but he does just fine as goalie with his moccasins. He and his two friends, Anita and Petou, join the Wolves late in the season. Travis, a fellow player, wrongfully blames the three of them for losses and ignores them on the ice. Anita is the only girl in the league and Petou is small but fast. Although the three friends are "different" than the other players, Travis has the true disadvantage-his mean spirited attitude. Danny's brother, a hockey pro, gently brings Travis around to realize the importance of working together as a team. The story is told skillfully and children will want to read it again and again.
