About the Author

Mari Andrea Travis is a theatre director, choreographer, and professor of performing arts at Morgan State University whose artistic work is grounded in Afro-Diasporic dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary storytelling. With an MFA in dance from The University of the Arts, her career bridges professional dance and theatre; education; and community work—centering social justice, liberative embodiment, and inclusive arts practices. This book reflects her commitment to preserving cultural legacy and uplifting underrepresented voices.
