In episode two of The Flesh Cartel, the dark purpose behind Mat and Dougie Carmichael’s abduction is revealed. Though Dougie is protected from the worst of the guards’ brutality, he’s disgusted to find himself halfway to broken—despairing of escape and terrified of pain. Mat holds onto hope despite repeated rapes and beatings, but threats toward his brother teach him well to lay aside his pride and pick his battles carefully.

Worn down by days of unrelenting fear and abuse, Mat and Dougie are packaged and marketed with the same ruthless efficiency as any consumer product: Dougie the prettyboy twink, Mat the rabid pit bull. They are led to the auction block as the showpiece of the house’s collection.

Mat would rather be beaten to death than play the role of obedient slave for sale, but Dougie, desperate not to be separated from his brother, strikes a deal with the pitiless Madame who runs the auction house and controls both their fates. It might just be enough to keep them together—slaves, but together—assuming Mat even wants to be after Dougie fulfills his end of his deal with the devil.

Meet the Author

Rachel is an M/M erotic romance author, a freelance writer and editor, and the Managing Editor of Riptide Publishing. She's also a sadist with a pesky conscience, shamelessly silly, and quite proudly pervish. Fortunately, all those things make writing a lot more fun for her . . . if not so much for her characters.

When she's not writing about hot guys getting it on (or just plain getting it; her characters rarely escape a story unscathed), she loves to read, hike, camp, sing, perform in community theater, and glue captions to cats. She also has a particular fondness for her very needy dog, her even needier cat, and shouting at kids to get off her lawn.

You can find Rachel at and Tweeting as @RachelHaimowitz. She loves to hear from folks, so feel free to drop her a line anytime at metarachel (at) gmail (dot) com.

Heidi Belleau was born and raised in small town New Brunswick, Canada. She now lives in the rugged oil-patch frontier of Northern BC with her husband, an Irish ex-pat whose long work hours in the trades leave her plenty of quiet time to write. She has a degree in history from Simon Fraser University with a concentration in British and Irish studies; much of her work centred on popular culture, oral folklore, and sexuality, but she was known to perplex her professors with unironic papers on the historical roots of modern romance novel tropes. (Ask her about Highlanders!) When not writing, you might catch her trying to explain British television to her newborn daughter or standing in line at the local coffee shop, waiting on her caramel macchiato.

Dark and compelling In Flesh Cartel 1: Capture, we met Mat and Dougie as they were kidnapped, tortured and raped before being processed. Processed for what they have no idea. All they know is that they don’t want to be separated. In Flesh Cartel 2: Auction the title should give a hint as to what is going to happen. Dougie is abused by the guards, but because he has a butt plug locked into place protecting his healing ass he can’t be raped as he was before. Mat isn’t so lucky. In fact, he does his best to draw the abuse to himself trying to protect his brother. After what seems like forever they are taken out of their cells to be cleaned up and readied for auction. This isn’t going to end well. Once again I found myself glued to the pages hoping against hope that Mat and Dougie would find some way to get back at their captors only to be heartbroken again and again over their treatment. Yet, still Mat soldiers on waiting, always waiting to make his move while Dougie appears to be mostly broken. Even if they escape would they be able to recover from their ordeal? Well, we won’t find out in this book especially after we see the outrageous amount of money that changes hands for the pretty boy Dougie and his brutish brother. I’m almost afraid to read more about them, but, of course, I must find out what happens and there are many episodes yet to go. *Book source ~ Many thanks to NetGalley and Riptide Publishing for providing a review copy. We find out that the brothers were abducted for human trafficking but why Dougie was targeted specifically was still unclear. I don't quite know how they find the people that they do, other than you realize that the people that they take have been fostered or have gone through the system somehow. So therefor they have no family looking for them if they were to disappear. Even though they didn't want Mat to begin with they have decided to present him to the potential buyers at the auction. Dougie is determined to do whatever he can to keep them together and to get auctioned off as a pair. Not only was the first part about their horrible treatment while in captivity bad enough but then the auction is even more horrific. First they are cleaned up... well Dougie is. Mat is bruised and battered, drugged and then, to make him look more "bad-ass", they shave his head and take a razor to his eyebrow and stitch him up to give him a scar. I mean, seriously?! I just felt so bad for him. Then the things that they are made to do on stage for the potential buyers to try to get higher bids is just vile. My brain just couldn't wrap around it. I don't normally read this type of genre but I had seen such high reviews and my curiosity got the best of me when I saw it available on NetGalley. Not that it's poorly written but it's just so graphic and horrific that the majority of the time I read it with my eyes wide open. I couldn't imagine being one of the brothers and going through what they went though. Even though we don't get a lot of back story on the characters and there isn't a ton of character development before the abduction, my heart broke for them. Both brothers would rather gain the attention of the guards so that the other brother won't have to endure the pain. I just felt so bad for these characters and humiliated for them. This short novel evoked so much emotion from me that I literally could not put the story down. I would classify this series as "horror erotica" if there even is such a thing. I mean, not only was it very graphic but like I said my eyes were bugging out of my head the entire time.

Dark, gritty and not for everyone. Extreme Erotica, perfectly written.

Loved this second book as much as the first and I hope the third comes out soon as well.
