Overview

Without warning, the world comes to an end. The sky looms frigid white. The electric grid falters. Airplanes everywhere crash to the ground.

Within moments, the sky comes down in a crushing sheet of light, and everything and everyone are gone—except for Hannah and Amanda Given. Saved from destruction by three fearsome and powerful beings, the Given sisters suddenly find themselves elsewhere: a strange new Earth where restaurants move through the air like flying saucers and the fabric of time is manipulated by common household appliances.

Soon Hannah and Amanda are joined by four other survivors from their world—a mordant cartoonist, a shy teenage girl, a brilliant young Australian, and a troubled ex-prodigy. Hunted by enemies they never knew they had, and afflicted with temporal abilities they never wanted, the sisters and their companions begin a cross-country journey to find the one man who can save them—before time runs out.

Moments before the world ends in a crush of white and chaos, six Americans are saved by mysterious strangers who clamp silver bracelets on their wrists. Though they witness the horror of the apocalypse, the survivors are protected by their jewelry and transported to an alternate America. In this new reality, the six "Silvers," so called for their bracelets, find that they have strange powers to manipulate time. Now the six—an actress, her widowed sister, two teenagers, an artist, and a homeless ex-prodigy—must figure out why they were saved by the frightening and elusive Pelletiers. As the Silvers bond into a new family, they discover that they are not the only humans with power over time, and some of those others are gunning for the Silvers. Now the race is on, not only to escape their enemies but to figure out the motives of the Pelletiers and to prevent another coming apocalypse. VERDICT This first volume in a planned trilogy is fascinating sf; Price's (Slick) strong, engaging characters and fast-moving plot will keep readers on their toes. Highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic and dystopian fiction.—Jennifer Beach, Cumberland Cty. P.L., VA

I didn't expect much when I bought this, certainly not to be so absorbed. It reminded me a little bit of orphans of chaos and was very well done. For any true sci fi enthusiast this is a must read.

Read about The Silvers, and share in the potential. The sky is the limit--or is it? Let's find out! MUST READ

Interesting but not very sophisticated. Rather than a serious disscussion about the psychology behind bad desicions, the author is quick to use words like "stupid" and "foolish" to describe people that fall for some of the scams out there. Interesting topic. Missed opportunity to do it well.

More sophisticated writing than most YA dystopia reads. Creative plot held my interest for all 555+ pages. Hope the quality of the sequel is as high.
