Pierre-Joseph Redouté 1759-1840), was a Belgian painter and botanist from Belgium, renowned for his exquisite watercolors of roses, lilies and other flowers at the Château de Malmaison, many of which were published as large, colored stipple engravings. He was sometimes known as 'the Raphael of flowers' and has been called the greatest botanical illustrator of all time.
Alphonse Goossens (1866-1944) was a Belgian natural history illustrator who is best remembered for his orchid illustrations in Dictionnaire Iconographique des Orchidees.
