The story is based on Greek myth and recounts the tale of the flying horse Pegasus being sent by Athena to help a prince kill a beast. They succeed in doing so and the prince returns home a hero while Pegasus returns to his home with the gods, who later immortalize him in the stars by forming a constellation in his shape. The book is part of a series intended for preschool-aged through first grade children to read to themselves, so it has pronunciation hints and large print. Unfortunately, it also has language of such wooden simplicity that the book is unlikely to get any other use. Simple words and short sentences do not have to be unimaginative (think of Seuss, for instance). The collage illustrations are attractive.
