In 1934, a photograph was taken of a baseball team. These two rows of young men look like any group of American ballplayers, except perhaps for the Russian lettering on their jerseys. The players have left their homeland and the Great Depression in search of a better life in Stalinist Russia, but instead they will meet tragic and, until now, forgotten fates. Within four years, most of them will be arrested alongside untold numbers of other Americans. Some will be executed. Others will be sent to "corrective labor" camps where they will be worked to death. This book is the story of lives-the forsaken who died and those who survived.

    The Foresaken , An American Tragedy in Stalin's Russia

    Absoluting enlightening, brilliantly written account of a very important and tragic historic event that has conveniently been ignored. It should be required reading by everyone, particularly those who are sympathetic to communism. It is a lesson that cannot and should not be ignored as history has a way of repeating itself.

    Highly Recommended - this book is a must read!

    This book was passed to me from a friend. He told me once you start reading this book you will not want to put it down. Excellent read and yes I could not put it down. I found myself engulfed in this American tragedy. But what makes it so staggering is how American officials simply dismissed what was happening. This book brings home the horror of a Stalin Russia and should be required reading for those who seem to forget, skip over or debunk the perils of communism.

    This book sticks with you.

    An amazing book, following real Americans through the tragedy in Stalin's USSR makes it way more personal and understandable. As hard as it is for us pampered Americans to understand the horror, this book makes you feel the fear and pain of the Americans trapped there. It makes you so angry and frustrated with the complicity or at least willing blindness of American officials.

    You will think about this book often after you read it. It enlightening, not only for that horrible time, but also how control of financial choices always has to lead to crack downs on freedom of speech, paranoia and cruelty.
