THE PULPANORMAL BEGINS...

King Henry Price is fourteen and he loves everything he's not supposed to--stealing, cursing, and fighting to name a few. One day after his usual hour of detention he comes home to find an enigmatic woman named Ceinwyn Dale sitting in his kitchen, telling his parents lies about a special reform school. What she tells King Henry is different, she tells him he's a mancer, a Geomancer to be exact, that he's special, one in million maybe. She sure ain't a fairy giant and King Henry sure as hell ain't Harry Potter, but why not? Has to be better than the life he's already got.

King Henry Price is twenty-two, a recent graduate of the Asylum as an Artificer. With the special ability to create lasting items of the Mancy, he's spurned the Artificer's Guild and struck out on his own to found an Artificer workshop looking to do things his way. One night, a vampire baroness claiming she's named Anne Boleyn walks into his shop, telling King Henry he's going to help her, and she's not taking 'no' for an answer. King Henry is pretty sure the whole name thing is just a joke, but only pretty sure...

This story is a fun read-again-if you can get around some of the language used. Mr. Raley has written a very true-to-life 22 year old man talking about and through his 14 year old self. This is recommended for anyone who likes great characters and an intriguing story.

An all-around fun read. Raley has a entertaining setting, engaging characters, and an engaging narrative voice. I will definitely purchase his other works and look forward to reading more King Henry.

    Omg

I was completely surprised by this book. I thought it was a young adult book. Not even close. I had it in my reader for months before I decided to read it. Yesterday. Today I am raving about this book since I just finished reading it. I would have given this book 5 stars except for a couple minor issues.

The timeline switching from King Henry at 14 and King Henry at 21 took some getting used to. It was like reading two books at once. I can actually see this as two different series age group wise. Also there were some proof and editing errors. Not too much that it detracted from the stories flow, but still there none the less.

I highly recommend this book. There is bad language just as the title says so if you are offended by it I suggest you get over it and read this book anyway.

As another reviewer put it: this book is Harry Potter and Dresdon files put together. Sort of....

    Jim Butcher skoot over

Jim Butcher of the Dresden Files, skoot over and make some room for an apparent protege, that is R. Raley. This book had it all; action, new theme, new twists on overworn characters like Vampires and how or what they are/do. Best of all, the author injects ample but totally applicable doses of genuinely funny humor or sarcasm. Ok, thats enough for now, I have to go see if he wrote more!

    Original, funny, and irreverent

Great, entertaining read. Only thing that kept it from five stars was the occassional mispelled or dropped word. Looking forward to more King Henry and mancy adventures!

Language kept it from being a 5 star!

It took a couple of chapters to get into this book but when it got going I did not want to put it down. A Harry Potter meets X men kind of thing. Not suitable for kids as language is REALLY rough.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The title intrigued me and the fact that it was free sealed the deal. I liked the main character as well as pretty much everybody in the book and really want to see what happens to them in other adventures.

    Well done.

When I first read the summery I thought I accidentaly bought a "young adult" book. Nope! Dead wrong. Loved it even though I am not a fan of foul mouths. Very interesting characters, each with their own flaws.
Can't wait to read the next one and some of the short stories.

This book made me think of what Harry Potter would be if it was real! I really enjoyed the storyline and watching the beginning of King Henry. I can't wait to keep reading and following the adventures of the King. Great job!!
