I absolutely love this wonderful collection, which arrived just in time for my 10-year-old to enjoy, before he is too big. I have searched Frances books, as only the one about Thelma and the tea set is commonly available. This is the first time in twenty years that I have seen these stories. Don't miss the chance to expose your children to the wonderful lessons in this collection. Whether she is trying a new food, or learning to include other genders and ages of "badgers" in her play, Frances learns from her mistakes so your kids don't have to! Of course, kids will make mistakes, and Frances provides an excellent model of resilience, forgiving onesself, and learning from mistakes. The only thing disappointing is the conspicuous absence of "Bedtime for Frances" from the collection. Could it be because corporal punishment (spanking) is referred to, though not resorted to, in that volume? "Bedtime" was my personal favorite, spooky in exploring bedtime fears, and triumphunt in conquering them. Overall, the Frances collection cannot be missed. Do not consider it only a girl's book. Frances' buddy Albert, and a strong father figure, make this great for boys, too.
