A Gun Ride
I've read all of The Funeral Planner series by Lynn Isenberg, and I have to say, this book, The Funeral Planner Goes Global really sticks out from the rest. It's funny, it's adventurous and it feels like National Treasure meets the previous books. Isenberg has really changed up her game here with this latest installment, taking Maddy to China to help change thousands of years of burial tradition while tracking down the meaning of a mysterious yellow fishing lure in her uncle Sam's collection.
While many of the old characters are still here (Victor, Eve, Sierra, Arthur and President Stone) there is an entirely new cast for an entirely new location. In this installment Maddy spends most of her time with Mike Kahn, a mythologist and owner of a small coffee shop. It's fun to follow Maddy and her cohorts around China as they track down the meaning behind her Uncle Sam's yellow lure.
In fact her Uncle Sam has not played a bigger role since the first installment, The Funeral Planner. It's interesting that Ms. Isenberg chose to bring Uncle Sam back as a major player in her series. I honestly didn't expect to see him play such a big role after being deceased.
Still, this third installment has all the trappings of any in the series. There is the need to confront one's past and loss, Maddy is still struggling with her love life and we see the return of a certain rival, this time more evil than any of his previous incarnations. It's a good book and a fun read. It has something for both newcomers to the series and old friends to enjoy. I recommend you pick up a copy today and start reading!
