    The doctor rules!!!!

I love this book. The good doctor demystifies and debunks a lot of theories concerning refinishing furniture. The book is enjoyable even if you don't do your own refinishing. It covers a wide range of topics, from refinishing to finishes to the properties of various woods. Mr. Grotz is not at all shy about saying what he thinks of each wood. At one time I wanted to refinish my solid maple drop leaf dining room table, but was disheartened when I read the instructions printed on stripping materials (not to mention the expense). Then one day, while wandering around a used bookstore, I happened upon The Furniture Doctor. I grabbed it thinking it would be a good gift for one of my brothers, who makes furniture, until I started reading it. Needless to say he will finally get his own copy now that it's available in paperback. By the way, it took less than five hours to strip the varnish from my table following Mr. Grotz's instructions.
