Meet the Author

Lawrence J. Gitman is an emeritus professor of finance at San Diego State University. A prolific writer, Dr. Gitman has more than 50 articles in a variety of leading finance journals, such as Financial Management, Financial Review, Financial Services Review, Journal of Financial Planning, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Journal of Financial Research, Financial Practice and Education, and Journal of Financial Education. He has also authored or co-authored numerous major textbooks covering principles of managerial finance, introduction to finance, corporate finance, personal finance, and investing topics. An investment book, co-authored with Michael Joehnk, was selected as one of 1988's ten best personal finance books by Money magazine. Dr. Gitman is an active member of numerous professional organizations and is past president of the Academy of Financial Services, the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, the Midwest Finance Association, and the FMA National Honor Society. In addition, he is a Certified Financial Planner and a Certified Cash Manager. Dr. Gitman served as vice-president with the Financial Management Association, as a director of the San Diego MIT Enterprise Form, and on the CFP? Board of Standards. He received his B.A. from Purdue University, his M.B.A. from the University of Dayton, and his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. He and his wife have two children and live in La Jolla, Calif., where he is an avid bicyclist.

Carl McDaniel is a professor of marketing at the University of Texas-Arlington, and currently holds courses for the executive MBA program on campus and in China. He was chairman of the marketing department at UTA for thirty-two years. He is the recipient of several awards for outstanding teaching. McDaniel also has been a District Sales Manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and served as a board member of the North Texas Higher Education Authority. He is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Society for Marketing Advances.
