Overview

The Gardener's Way was inspired by a simple philosophy: if you cannot be in the garden every day, the next best thing is to put yourself in a garden state of mind. As you leaf through these pages you will wander along a tranquil path offering fresh perspectives upon nature and life.

Each day's entry begins with a quotation chosen to evoke a deep connection with the joys of the natural world. The wisdom of the saints and the insights of contemporary naturalists set a positive tone for your day. Author Maureen Gilmer helps you gain a new understanding of age-old feasts, festivals, and religious rituals that are rooted in nature, plants, and the garden. You will learn the meanings of Wiccan Sabbaths, fairy rings, solstice celebrations, and druid oracles, while growing in awareness of the common ground shared by all who love the earth.

To help you rekindle your relationship with the natural world, each day's entry suggests symbolic acts that can help you grow a better garden-and, thereby, enrich your life. Create a simple shrine in the notch of a tree as an outward sign that the garden is your sanctuary. Make a healing infusion from medicinal herbs. Become conscious of changes in light as sunshine and shadows make their way across your garden. Let them remind you that the dawn of each day is golden with new discoveries and opportunities.

Though all of us would love to spend time each day in the wild or in our gardens, it is nearly impossible to do so. Let The Gardener's Way help you take a few quiet moments to celebrate your spiritual connection to the botanical world through a garden of words that will renew your mind, body, and spirit.

About the Author:
Maureen Gilmer was inspired to write The Gardener's Way after listeners of her radio program requested more ideas on spirituality in the garden. The author of twelve books for gardeners, Gilmer has appeared on ABCs "The View," "Home Matters," and HGTV's "Willard Scott's Home and Garden Almanac." She presents a weekly radio gardening show in Nevada County, California, and will soon produce gardening segments for KOVR-13 in Sacramento. Gilmers articles and columns appear regularly in such magazines as Better Homes and Gardens, Fine Gardening, and Country Living. She is the creator of gardenforum.com, an award-winning website that seeks to enhance spirituality in the garden. Gilmer also owns Professional Landscape Design, a firm that specializes in commercial and residential landscaping. She lives in Dobbins, California. Gilmer is the author of Gaining Ground, also published by Contemporary Books.
