Overview

Ten agonizing months have gone by since Therese faced off against her parents’ murderer at Mount Olympus, and she suspects Thanatos’s absence is meant to send her a message: go on with your life. She tries to return Pete’s affections even though her heart aches for the god of death, but when Than shows up to take her hamster’s soul, she becomes infuriated when he says he’s “been busy.” In cahoots with her new friend, who's gotten in with the Demon Druggies at school, Therese takes a drug that simulates a near-death experience, planning to tell Than off so she can have closure and move on, but things go very, very wrong.

Eventually she learns Than has been busy searching for a way to make her a god, and he’s found it, but it requires her to complete a set of impossible challenges designed by Hades, who hopes to see her fail.

Meet the Author

I write fiction for teens and adults and teach writing and literature at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I live with my husband, three kids, two dogs, and two rats (Katniss and Prim, of course). I'm also an avid reader and book reviewer. I've always said I never want to give up reading for writing or vice versa. I want to do both. My favorite authors are Tracy Chevalier, Ann Patchett, Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan, and Stephanie Meyer. I have too many to name, but those are a handful of them. When I'm not spending time with the family, working, reading, or writing, I can be found watching The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Middle, and NCIS. I love to interact with readers and have recently added features to my website at http://www.evapohler.com with this in mind. If you email me your art and/or stories based on The Gatekeeper's Trilogy, or on Greek mythology in general, I will post them on my website for others to enjoy. I have also added a short video on the Olympians and a fun Jeopardy Game to test your knowledge. Please visit my website for more details. Thanks for taking the time to read about me and my writing!

This novel is phenomenally well written. A great deal of time was put into formatting and editing. The descriptions are spot on, while remaining quite enthralling and entertaining. I love that this novel is mythologically, historically and scientifically accurate. It adds an entirely new level to the story, making it even more complex and enjoyable. Pohler manages to seamlessly blend mythology with reality to create an awesome world for readers to get lost in. The characters in this novel were also awesome. Although most of them were quite well developed in the first novel of the series, development continues with leaps and bounds in this novel. They grow and mature the way that normal high school students do, even if some of them have challenges or fears that most of us will never face. I appreciate that Pohler attacked some very difficult topics in this novel. Not only does she entertain us throughout, but loss, drugs, sex, and abuse are brought up in ways that make them approachable and open them up for conversation. These can be very difficult subjects to even think about, but Pohler tackles them and winds them into her phenomenal tale. As a whole, I am thoroughly in love with this novel and this series. The mythology is sound, as is the writing. I cannot wait for the next instalment.  Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review

Picking up ten months after the events in The Gatekeeper's Sons, there is a good background set up for this book with references to the past blending in well! Eva Pohler has picked up the pace in book 2, thrown in a few more curves, expanded the depth of many characters and created scenes that have you dreading what will happen next! When you stop thinking of a character as fictional, the author has done their job well! Therese has been a normal teen, she loves Thanatos, she hates his lack of communication, she misses him, she wonders why he hasn't contacted her, after all, he IS a god, then, she hates him, then she loves him, and on and on her very real teen anguish goes! Therese also has a 'more than just a friend, not quite a boyfriend' relationship with her best friend's brother (who was hit with one of Cupid's arrows of love and is in love with her)- so she feels guilty about that, too. Again, she is a human teen, so she is flawed. She also seems more whiny and does a pretty dangerously stupid thing that costs the life of one of her friends, for which Therese feels extremely guilty, (and she should). Her actions have not only ended a life, but caused a lifetime of suffering for others. Meanwhile, Than is desperately seeking advice on how to be together with Therese for eternity and her 'prayers' to him have not gone unheard, just painfully unanswered. The rest of the gods have vowed NOT to interfere, not to help. Finally, Hades gives Therese several more challenges for her to complete and if she finishes all of these challenges, she can be made a god. He made the challenges extremely difficult, especially for a human girl, after all, how many people are given another chance? But Therese can be very strong-willed and is able to think well on her feet. Is she strong enough to complete each task on her own? Does she deserve this second chance? Will love conquer all? Will Therese and Thanatos be together for all eternity? Sometimes love is just not meant to be, one small mistake made by Therese may have doomed everything. Can Thanatos fix things? The ending will have you 'burning' for the answer!

A wonderful continuation to the Gatekeeper's Sons. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this next installment. Theresa has had no communication from Than which infuriates her even though this is the consequence for refusing to do as Hades requested in the first book. Meanwhile, Than has tirelessly worked to find a way to be together and make her a goddess. She will soon find out that there will be many challenges to face to meet that goal. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat as you want to see these two together in the end. Highly recommend the entire series!

Another wonderful combination of Greek mythology meets modern day! I just love this series. I tend to steer more towards the steamier romance rather than the YA. It's nice to step out of the comfort zone and find a good read that hold my attention. I read this in one day, which says a lot with how limited my time for reading has been. I just couldn't put it down. So many current issues that young adults face are addressed. It touches on sensitive subjects such as drug use and loss of loved ones. I applaud that the characters want to wait to have sex. So many YA books have them hopping into bed together so quickly after the characters meet. I'm so glad that this was not the case in this story. I can't wait to read the next installment in the Gate Keeper's Saga.
