Professor Scanlon has written a fascinating historical novel about an unforgettable character. He has caught perfectly the voice of his subject and beautifully rendered it in the language and style of the epoch. This is a book that warrants far more attention that it seems to have received. I give the book five stars.
I read the book THE GERMAN PRINCESS while on a camping trip to a remote area in the Ontario wilds. Having been totally absorbed in the story, I was astounded some time later, to realized I was still in the wilderness! I had been transported to old England and could almost see, taste and smell the life there. Dr. Scanlon's book is totally captivating and exceptionally well written. His knowledge of the period is well evidenced in this story and I was impressed by his ability to get into the female mind. I would highly recommend this work of historical fiction and look forward to future works by this author.
