In Life, Get ' Em Girls Always Go After What They Want...

You know a Get 'Em Girl when you see one. She's got it together: great job, nice friends, and plenty of style. But when it comes to love, not all Get 'Em Girls have it figured out.

While some may think it's a cliché, maybe the way to a lover's heart is still through his stomach. But who has time to be chained to a stove? Just like having an extra job skill can help you get hired, someone willing to invest a little time and energy into a relationship definitely stands out in a crowded dating field.

The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to the Power of Cuisine features over 120 easy and delicious recipes that reflect the authors' southern-girl-in-the-big-city upbringings and will complement every stage of a growing relationship:

  • "Grown 'n' Sexy" desserts meant for sharing
  • The first "Morning After" Breakfast
  • The "Bring Him Back" Chicken Soup when he's sick
  • "Meet the Parents" Carrot Cake and much more!

Whether planning an intimate dinner for two or a down-home feast reminiscent of Mama's Sunday dinner, The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to the Power of Cuisine is filled with helpful tips, from stocking the pantry, to selecting wine, and even dating advice!

Cooking for a lover can be more meaningful (and cheaper) than dining out. But this is about more than just the food: it's about women investing in themselves and in their relationships. For all the women who aren't afraid to go after what they want, The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to the Power of Cuisine is a must-have in their kitchens!

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Combining dating advice with cooking lessons, Bridgers and her coauthors, creators of Get 'Em Girl, Inc., begin with an introduction to cooking, including basic utensils and how to set a table. The main part collects 120 easy recipes that every novice would feel prepared to make. Numerous menus are themed around the stages of dating, including "The Morning After Breakfast," which includes Cinnamon French Toast, Home-Fried Potatoes, and Sage Sausage. The guide posts little tips on how you can make the recipe your own, along with "Aphrodisiac Alerts," playing up on the dating theme. Though the recipes and ingredients lists are clear, a novice would appreciate photographs of the items, which this book lacks. Readers who are attracted to simple recipes to steam up their love life might want to check out Rebecca Field Jager's How To Make Love and Dinner at the Same Time: 200 Slow Cooker Recipes To Heat Up the Bedroom Instead of the Kitchen.

Read an Excerpt

Introduction

Get 'Em Girl: An ambitious woman who uses unconventional ways to achieve her goals.

When we first decided to write this book, it was based solely on our love of three things: food, fun, and men! Being three single women living in New York City, we knew all too well, the pitfalls of dating in the big city. Young and career-oriented, we didn't have a real need (or desire) to cook. Yes, we had to eat, but this is New York! There is a restaurant, deli, or take-out place on every other block. However, we also knew that to date (and keep) a man in a place as big as New York, which is full of beautiful women of all backgrounds, we had to step up the game. We had to sit back and ask ourselves, "What are we bringing to the table?" Yes, we all are beautiful, intelligent, and educated -- but so are the tens of thousands of other women waiting to take our places. So instead of trying to decipher what men want in a woman, we just asked them.

We set out with our list of questions and hit the streets (well, actually, the barbershops, supermarkets, churches, workplaces, and chat rooms) with one goal in mind: to find out what it is that men really want. While some definitely didn't want much (all you have to do is know how to drop it like it's hot and pick it up slow) almost all of them asked the inevitable, "...but can you cook?"

Now we have all heard the saying "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach," and most of us probably think it's an old-fashioned cliché that doesn't fit in this day and age. But as sure as the day is long, it's just as relevant today, if not more so, as it was fifty years ago. Contrary to how fine you know you are, any man is turned on by woman who is willing to invest the slightest bit of time and energy in pleasing him.

The purpose of this book is not to have women chained to the stove, but to reintroduce women to the art form of cooking, which, if done properly, can be easy, fun, and delicious. Just think about it: If you met a man at his place for a quiet evening, just to get to know each other, and found yourself presented with herb-roasted chicken, sautéed broccolini, and mushroom rice pilaf, you would be liable to lose all your religion and good sense -- well, after you ate, of course. Aside from this being an immensely thoughtful thing to do, the fact that he dedicated the time to cook such an elaborate meal for you would probably send you right over the edge. Well -- the same goes for him.

So with that said, if he's worth it, and if you're playing for keeps, impress him with that little thing you do with your tongue -- and that little thing you do with your skillet.

    Get to cooking

This book is great for recipes when your serving a special someone, either spouse or relative or just a friend. The recipes in this book are easy to follow, but I would recommend this book to someone who has basic cooking skills.

    I Also Recommend:

    You Go Girls

The Get'Em girls guide is a book for the single gal who wants to spice her love life by cooking. Honestly anyone who is married or in a serious realtionship can use this book. It will teach you how to cook all kinds of food. The recpies are not hard to do at all. The recipe list are not over the top or pricey. This is something your partner would really appericate. This book is filled with helpful tips about stocking your pantry, selecting the wine and setting the mood. Also I really enjoy this book and the authors are great. The recipes in here are so damn good. Everything from baked macaroni and cheese, salmon with brown sugar glaze, crab cakes, and homemade vanilla ice cream with brown sugar peaches. The only two negatives for me. I wish it was hardcover and it had more pictures.
