    Gift of Ah Marr

The Gift of Ah Marr is well written, easy to read, fascinating and captivating, supported with footnotes but lightened with good humor. It gives solid, honest feedback to the thousands of church missions and millions of American volunteers who had toiled, and are continuing to toil for the betterment of the lives of the 'heathens' and strangers. The generosity, love, support and oportunities offered by the American people had enabled Dr. Tse to earn an MA, a PhD and an MD from the highest institutions of learning in the US (Mt. Holyoke,Yale, Medical College of PA,University of Pennsylvania). She had practiced medicine for 44 years among the needy. She had not accumulated wealth as a physician but had returned many times over to the American people their generosity and support that enabled her to become an eminent scientist and a well recognized, respected astute medical diagnostician.

    Gift of Ah Marr

Rose L. Tse,(BS,MA,PhD,MD), author of many scientific articles, has now written her autobiogrphy. She has practiced medicine for 44 years among the needy. Her book is lined with social and cultural implications in a nonjudgmental, deeply observant and credible manner. It is very much a drama of complex interactions in human beings and a testimony that one person,Dr, Tse, can make positive differences in the lives of many.

    Gift of Ah Marr

This book is a well documented autobiography of a Chinese girl who grew up during the most turbulant period in China's history. The author narrates warmly the influences of the American missionaries on the Chinese and her culture. She describes her remarkable and successful search for the highest educational attainment in the US despite many hardships, and the fulfillment of her wish to serve the American people and her family left behind in China. The narration is warm, lucid and, at times, humorous. More admirably, she presents her facts and events, in a nonjudgmental, deeply observant and credible manner, with footnotes. I highly recommend this book for book club discussions, for reviews as well as for pleasure reading. The book is so captivating that once one starts to read it, it would be very diffult to put it down until one finishes the whole book.

    Gift of Ah Marr

Dr. Tse earned her PhD at Yale and her MDfrom the Medical College of Pennsylvania. What made Dr. Tse outstanding is her undaunted spirit, her fixed focus and her unrelenting spirit in her pursuit of excellence. I was deeply moved by Dr. Tse' father's love for her. Then I was scared when she made her frantic escape from Shanghai with little money only days before the communists marched into the city. Her whole life was a struggle but she always managed to come out on top. Despite her hardships, she managed to bring all 13 members of her family to this FREE country. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. All my friends also said the same thing , that is: once they started reading the book, they could not put it down because it is so uniquely captivating.

    Gift of Ah Marr

This book is a true story of my life and is written in simple , easy to read English so that more people can enjoy it. I have indeed led a rather extraordinary life. This book touches on some cultural idiosyncrasies of Old China. The ingenuity and the climb of an impoverished young girl (myself) to the heights of Academia as well as her Profession should serve as an inspiration to readers of all ages, not to simply accept fate. By perseveing, studying hard and/or working hard one's dream will come true.

Truly Inspirational ! Vivid, Captivating, & Well Written

Born in China in 1927, Rose felt, from an early age, enormous burden of responsibility, but she always seemed to know what she had to do. The spunky Rose chose the path of most resistance and continued with tremendous courage, hope, and determination on that journey against all odds. In 1949, as the communists approached Shanghai in China¿s civil war, Rose escaped on the last flights out of Shanghai to Hong Kong, then to the US. As her American-educated scholar father and her very religious mother suffered under the communist China, the young Rose struggled alone through financial hardship, racial and gender discrimination in the foreign America. She eventually earned both PhD and MD degrees with honors and made significant contributions to the field of medicine and science. Through out the book, Rose examplified passion and devotion for whatever she does and of self-less love and sacrifice for her family. This memoir reminds us that perseverance will lead to the light at the end of the tunnel. Rose's life inspires each of us to set higher standards for ourselves. Overall, vivid, captivating, and well written.
