All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
If ever there was an ideal candidate for a holiday album it's Susan Boyle, the reality TV show contestant who caused a sensation with her pretty, old-fashioned performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" in 2009. If ever there was a genre that calls for old-fashioned prettiness it's the holiday album, a genre that cares not for the whims of fashion, a genre where predictability is cherished. For the most part, The Gift is indeed predictable in its sound -- a continuation of the glassy, stately march of I Dreamed a Dream -- and songs, relying on carols, not secular seasonal tunes. Well, that's not entirely true. There is a very, very large exception to that rule and that ...

Well, that's not entirely true. There is a very, very large exception to that rule and that is the inclusion of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," and Neil Finn's "Don't Dream It's Over." These three modern standards are given the same somnolent treatment as the rest of the record and popped right into the thick of The Gift without explanation. Of course, since they sound like as the rest of the record, they don't necessarily stand out, they merely meld into the album, providing an appropriately tasteful soundtrack to any holiday occasion you may choose.

Susan Boyle has done it again!!

The world has been given a "gift" in the person of Susan Boyle. This is a perfect description of her album. Enjoy now and for many holidays to come.I have come to wonder how much the world of music would have be denied if SoBo had not made that trip to BGT.

    Susan doesn't disappoint

This is a different Susan than we heard on her 1st CD but that's okay. There's a sweetness here that's probably a result of finally coming into her own long after anyone thought it would happen (if they even thought it would)and of feeling truly blessed (I also read her book). It somehow fits the season. I look forward to her next CD, again showing the wide range, not only of notes, but also of emotions, that she showed on her 1st CD.

    Bridget's Review

I'm a music fanatic and holiday music is one of my favorites. It always puts me in a good mood because this time of year is always a great time for me. I have an amazing family and the best friends a person could ask for. While listening to Susan Boyle - The Gift CD it made me think about the people in my life and how they are a gift. I know that sounds cliche but it's the truth. O Holy Night and O Come All Ye Faithful are absolutely beautiful songs but hearing Susan sing them brings them to a whole new level. I love this CD and plan on giving it to a few people for Christmas. The Gift gets 3 stars, easy.

Susan Boyle Has The Voice Of An Angel

It's hard to believe that this CD wasn't on Oprah's List of favorite things. It's at the top of mine. It is an excellent way to kick off the holiday season and puts you in the right mood for your Christmas shopping. It will make a great gift. I also recommend that you buy "When God Stopped Keeping Score," an intimate look at the power of God and forgiveness. It is an amazing book.

Just plain and simply beautiful music with no involved arrangements that get in the way of the tune and message.

Susan Boyle's voice reminds me a little of Judith Durham's, of THE SEEKERS from Austrailia.

    Susan Boyle GIFT

I love every song Susan Boyle sings/records. She is at the top of my list these days. I still enjoy Barbra Streisand.
