"If science is right, then I am crazy. And crazy is dangerous."

Tess Eckhart has always felt things nobody else can feel. Then the Ouija board incident happens at a high school party. Her complete freak out sends her family across the country-next to a nationally-renowned facility for the mentally ill. Worried Tess suffers from the same illness that tormented her grandmother, her parents insist she see a psychiatrist.

But Tess is more concerned about fitting in at her new school, and hiding the fact that she's seeing a therapist at the Edward Brooks Facility. She's used to whispers and stares, but when it comes to Luka Williams, a reluctantly popular boy in her class, she's unused to a stare that intense. Then the headaches start, and the seemingly prophetic dreams that haunt her at night. As Tess tries to hide them, she becomes increasingly convinced that Luka knows something-that he might somehow be responsible.

But what if she's wrong? What if Luka Williams is the only thing separating her from a madness too terrifying to fathom?

USA Today Happy Ever After Blog - Serena Chase
Set in a not-too-distant future that feels frighteningly like home, this novel immerses readers within the heart of Tess's fear from the very first chapter. This is not, however, a novel of horror. Guaranteed to leave you breathless, The Gifting is an eerie merging of Gothic-like dystopian mystery and YA romance within a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller. Expect to lose sleep over this book! A must-read addition to any YA reader's collection, this one's a keeper!

All I can say is wow!! I cannot even begin to describe how I feel about this book. This is Mrs. Ganshert's debut into YA lit but she executes it like a pro. I loved The Gifting! It is the perfect combination of dystopian, paranormal, and romance without one overpowering the others. The book starts off a little slow, but then I couldn't put it down. The plot is full of surprises and I was definitely stunned at how fast it ended. I inwardly screamed at the end. And after reading book 2's preview. And after realizing the next book doesn't come out for another month. Also, I loved the characters and am still struggling to stop thinking about them. Luka is sweet and protective of Tess. And Tess is awesome. Other than the crazy, paranormal part and the family dynamics, I found Tess highly relatable. She's just a sweet, shy, ordinary girl struggling to fit into a world where crazy doesn't exist. Her inner monologue had me smiling at times and I frequently grinned during her interactions with Luka. Correction: I couldn't stop grinning. I can't wait to see what happens in the second book! All this to say, if you love The Hunger Games or Divergent, this is the book for you!

Five star rating, and well deserved! If you could only choose one book to read, this is the one. From the first page I was captivated, thrilled and became one of this authors biggest fan. Don't miss this delightful reading.

Oh. My. Word. I am SO EXCITED for the YA genre in the inspirational fiction market! We've got some stellar authors crafting the most amazing fiction, and K.E. Ganshert is on my Top Ten Must Read list with her debut offering, "The Gifting". "The Gifting" begins a trilogy of YA novels that take the reader to the edge of imagination, where true speculative fiction lives. Tess has an unusual ability that makes her life absolutely miserable. We've often dreamed of the possibility of knowing the future; take it from "The Gifting" that a gift like that is NOT a blessing... feels more like a curse. Starting over as a new student in high school is tough, but when it's in the middle of the year and your brother can't seem to forgive you for the part you played in the move....yeah, it's brutal. Throw in being an oddball, and you've got a recipe for bullying and shunning. Enter Luka Williams. He's handsome, mysterious, and a loner. So when he attaches himself to Tess, rumors begin to fly and everything they do is observed and investigated for possible damaging gossip fodder. Mix in the ability to see beyond our own reality, and you've got one of the hottest new YA books in today's marketplace. I've loved Katie Ganshert's contemporary fiction, but this....this is pure gold! I can hardly wait for the next book in this amazing new series. I purchased a copy for my Kindle Fire, and devoured it quickly. You can find a copy of "The Gifting" at booksellers everywhere, and you can find it online. Whatever you do, do not miss out on "The Gifting"! Highly, highly recommended.

The Gifting is an amazing debut for K E Ganshert. The author knows how to grab the reader's attention and continue to do so til the end. I absolutely loved Tess. I loved the mystery and suspense that surrounds her. And I love the paranormal aspect of the story. This book ends with quite a cliffhanger and I can not wait to read the second book of the series. Awesome read!  5 plus stars

As an avid reader, there's never a time in my life when I don't have a book under way.... except for NOW, a full week after I've finished the Gifting trliogy. The problem is that I simply can't find another read that can adequately replace these books. From beginning to end (oh, why did it have to end!), I lived and breathed this series. Whenever it was absolutely essential to put it down due to the necessity of, oh, say, boo, hiss, having to shower or go to work, I kept thinking about the characters and wondering what they were doing while I was away. The Gifting is beautifully constructed, the plot twisting and bubbling like a lush woodland stream, swept along without a hitch by the perfect flow of the prose. The characters are fully developed, becoming solid, real people you want to take home with you and introduce to your family. There is much here to ponder: questions of good and evil, of ethics and morality, that will continue to intrigue me for years to come. If you're thinking that this is a YA book so if you don't happen to be a young adult you should pass it by, THINK AGAIN! High school aged readers might simply be the youngest readers of The Gifting, but the series will appeal to all ages. For me, this is *not* one of those books that I enjoyed but don't want to bother findng permanent shelf room for. Instead, all three of these books will stay on my shelf forever and will get passed on to my children & grandchildren. I adored the Gifting trilogy from beginning to end and beyond, and I am an OLD adult!

I loved this book! Read it for free and ended up quickly buying the next two. I am a speed reader, so for me to actually buy a book is a big deal! Original story, great heros.

I can't even begin to explain how much I love this trilogy! I always try to find books that take me away to a different world and make me forget my own and this book sucked me in big time! I have a serious case of couch butt. The first book was free and the second was $4.99 as well as the third. Crazy deal! When I read the overview of the first book I figured, its free so what do I have to lose? I lost absolutely nothing but gained an immense sadness when I was done reading. I didn't want it to end! Seriously, just read it!

Good storyline and believable characters make this dystopian story a page turner. Got this one for free and now I have to know what happens next so I just bought book two, The Awakening.

The Good I couldn't stop reading this. I can't put my finger on exactly what had me hooked because as I look back it seems like a pretty normal book, but I had to finish it. If it wasn't for work and being a responsible adult, I would've gotten it done in less than the day that it took. Without getting too spoilery, the setting is wonderful. It's our world, but it isn't. There are a few huge political changes that make it seem like a parallel to the world we live in. It's so easy to imagine this world and become immersed in it, since it is so similar, while at the same time wondering how you'd feel if those few changes really were thrust on us. The characters in this were marvelous. We have some true teen personalities that I remember seeing when I was in high school. We have characters that seem to change drastically overnight and some that are incredibly mysterious. It's in this world that we have Tess. She's moved with her family quite often, but this most recent time is her fault. She sees things she shouldn't...hallucinations in classrooms and friends' houses and her dreams of people dying never cease. What makes matters worse is that people with mental illness in this world are considered a 'burden' and sent to a rehabilitation center. But are they really being helped? The BEST part of The Gifting though is that the entire time reading I'm wondering if what she is seeing is real or if she is a delusional schizophrenic. Either way, I'm fascinated by her story. The Bad There are cliches within the pages, mostly about the 'amazing' boy being interested in little ole normal main character girl. Only Tess isn't so normal. The Romance Tess is a freak. Luka is the all-american poster boy for talented handsome gentlemen. These two have undeniable chemistry and I love watching their interactions. Tess gets a little head over heels and flustered around him while also not trusting that his interest in her is sincere. I'm enjoying the romance here so far. Luka is a character I love so I'm hoping things work out well. Conclusion I read The Gifting so quickly. It mixes Paranormal and Dystopia seamlessly and the action parts are both mysterious and thrilling. I immediately bought the second book in the series right when I finished it. While it ends in a cliff-hanger, the story is at a breaking point. The characters are quirky, fun, and intense. The world is so similar to ours and yet light years different and I am fully invested in where this story is going from here. I got The Gifting for free on Amazon. I would absolutely recommend reading it whether free or not. *Originally given 4 1/2 stars at JC's Book Haven "Just because a lot of people believe in something doesn't make it true."

Okay. I tend to share a story testimony whenever I review a book my parents suggested to me. Of course, now is no exception. I knew that there was an author at my church. I knew we shared the same first name, and I knew that the first letter of her last name was one off from mine. I also knew her daughter was in the classroom I help in for church. But I honestly feel like I was ignorant to the fact. Until my mom got all three books inside The Gifting trilogy. She found this one for free, and that day, the other two were on sale. I honestly feel sad that I didn't get started sooner. I just tore through this book, after finding it for me, except for the two times that my NOOK remained dead for two or more days. But The Gifting... it has everything. Parallels to the Christian and real world, with supernatural beings that don't get too supernatural, short chapters, deep characters, and only about five typos. This book was perfect. And there is seriously nobody I would not recommend this book to.

The author is a great writer. The story, plot, characters, and everything else about this book is great. I will say its a series and the first book doesn't really resolve the problem. So be prepared for a cliff hanger. But honestly, I didn't mind this cliff hanger. It was sublet rather than abrupt. Anyway, the lead characters are very well written. I love that they were intelligent and even a little flawed. Overall, its s story you want be upset over reading. Definitely worth your time.

Interesting characters and storyline. It's slow in a few places but picks up towards the end. It makes me think of an alternate reality of our world since religion is not recognized and government rules. Mental illness is not tolerated and if you have a mental illness your locked away.

I absolutely love this book. It didn't take me long to get hooked onto the story line or the characters. I love the plot, love how it progressed and loved the ending. Now I'm debating on if I want to buy the second book on the nook or go buy it in paperback. Read the book I promise you won't be disappointed!

At first, I thought this was going to be too dark of a novel for me. I won't read books about demons and such but this book was incredible! I normally consume books so fast, and I did read all 3 of this series in 2 days, but it was painful to know I was going to finish them because they were so good I didn't want them to end, but SO SUSPENSEFUL that I couldn't put them down. For the last book I kept making myself put it down so I could prolong it as much as possible, but I couldn't resist picking it back up immediately! And all along you think you know what is happening and will happen but the story is so riveting, suspenseful, and surprising. The world she created is so complete and scarily descriptive of where our world seems to be headed. I know the books are being compared to the Hunger Games and Divergent, both series that I love, but this is in a different class entirely. This is more real than either of those. We battle not against flesh and blood... I'm a Believer. I don't know how else to say it. Please read Lord Foulgrin's Letters and The Ishbane Conspiracy also. These books teach, through fiction, how Satan and his legions operate in our world.

The Gifting is a fantastic read!!! K. E. Ganshert spins an alternate reality where everything abnormal is erased from society. Tess knows she's different but desperately wishes to be normal. When she meets Luka, she discovers she may not be the only different person out there. This book pulls you in and makes you want to keep turning the page. I was so enthralled that as soon as I read the end I bought book 2.
