Judith Trevenna lives a relatively tranquil life at Number 8 of the Cathedral Close in the sleepy English village of Carchester. Judith and her mother welcome a trio of guests. First, there's Judith's stepsister Blanche Severnake and her boss, the novelist Sarah Chetwoode, who needs some country air to calm her nerves. Then there's strange cousin Boris, who will only travel under the cover of night to avoid spies and assassins . . . or so he says. When news of murder and a jewel heist in Paris comes up during tea, it seems like nothing more than idle gossip. But soon Judith hears talk of satanic cults, and more murder follows. Very deadly business has come to Number 8, and it's up to Judith to clean house…
