Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
This paperback is a take-off on the gingerbread man story. The Gingerbread Bear jumps out of the oven and runs away from the little girl, her mother, three campers that are roasting marshmallows, a chipmunk, and a wolf. One after the other, they chase the Bear but then get tired and sit down. When the Bear smells honey he wanders into the house where the family, campers, chipmunk, and wolf are gathered around a table. The Bear runs around the table reciting his verse: "Run, run, try if you dare. You can't catch me. I'm the Gingerbread Bear." The clever ranger says he can't hear the Gingerbread Bear, so the bear comes closer and closer. When the bear is very close, the Ranger grabs him. "And snip-snap! That was the end of that!" We see an empty plate. The colored pictures add information. This recycled old favorite may add interest. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
