The Girls on the Roof contains every emotion that you can possibly experience. At roller coaster speed, the book moves from tragedy to comedy. It's a fast read, but you need to return to it again and again to appreciate the depth of the individual events and images. The characters are people you know and their emotions are ones that you've experienced. It's real! You're watching the book happen in your head. This book goes way beyond film. A movie is too detached. Set aside an afternoon and read The Girls on the Roof in one sitting. You just can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

I am tetotaciously exflunctified--if that term may also be used to express awe and rapture. (In any event, I just love it!) The Girls on the Roof is a mighty work, as vast and powerful as the Mississippi. The narrative voices are quirky, lyrical, comic, poignant, and every one of them in perfect pitch. I had the joy of reading selections aloud to a group. It is like reading the river itself. This is a work to be shared and celebrated. -Elizabeth Cunningham
