Overview

THE GLASSMEN OF MURANO "BORN OF FIRE" by Author, Yvonne M. Moretti, is a riveting - never before told - in depth thought-provoking perception by the Writer touching upon the evolution of glass from its most prehistoric of form -- naturally occurring "volcanic glass"; humanity discovering the diversified utilitarian use of glass over the ages; and how two noted and world renown Muranese brothers - the late Italian/American Glass Maestros and Artisans -- Alessandro Moretti and Roberto Moretti -- played an important role in the art form's contemporary 20th Century decorative development abroad. This vividly illustrated and informative pictorial writing embodies a captivating full-size "Coffee Table Book" design, containing over 220 spectacular eye-catching images and graphics encompassing the topics of nature, history, Museum/Gallery Collections, and the Moretti Glassworks. The Writer's memoirs embrace a touching, yet poignant, account of the Moretti brothers' early harrowing lives in the glass industry during pre- and post- World War II Europe. The narrative goes on to document the Moretti Brothers' eventual exodus from their humble Muranese Italian homeland to other continents abroad --carrying with them the only thing they knew best - their art of glassmaking. The writing offers the reader a visual, yet tangible, bird's eye view -- touching upon ancient times -- through present day. The narrative invites to reader to travel along with the author through history to share the past with the present. The Moretti brothers were major contributors to the mid-1950's modern Italian/American glass movement, while still retaining their culture. Many of the crystalline and vibrant colored art forms depicted in this writing are displayed in the private collections of various Glass Galleries and Museums in the United States and abroad. Their unique executions; along with their courageous documented struggle pre- and post-war; and personal history from childhood to adulthood -- with detailed captions -- will most definitely keep the reader captivated from "beginning" to "end".
