Meet the Author

After being diagnosed with celiac disease in 2002, Annalise Roberts devoted herself to developing gluten-free baking recipes that taste just as good (if not better than) their wheat flour counterparts. Her recipes were featured in Gourmet magazine in November 2005, and her first book, Gluten-Free Baking Classics (Agate Surrey) appeared in May 2006 (an expanded and revised edition was released in September 2008). Her most recent book, Gluten-Free Baking Classics for the Bread Machine (Agate Surrey, 2009), is a collection of recipes developed for the Zojirushi bread machine. She works with celiac support groups and teaches gluten-free cooking and baking classes in the New York metropolitan area.

In 2007, Claudia Pillow received her Ph.D. in Health Studies from Texas Women's University. Dr. Pillow lectures about gluten intolerance and teaches gluten-free cooking and baking classes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She serves on the board of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America and is a local resource for the North Texas chapter.

    more from this reviewer

    Very informative....

I received this book for Christmas and right in time!! I had gone off my gluten-free diet for about a year and was feeling the pain of such a bad choice. I kept brushing off my aches and pains attributing them to the arthritis I have been diagnosed with, but I knew better. After reading the beginning of the book, which talks about inflammation caused by food and stress, I am determined to exclude foods containing gluten from my diet. If you've been wondering why you are so fatigued and in pain, then this book is worth examining. I have yet to try the recipes as I have been primarily using fresh veggies, rices, meats, and eggs to get myself weaned from gluten products without spending an excess of money on my grocery bills...gluten-free can be very expensive and involves visits to specialty stores.

    Cookbook?

I bought this book because it said it was a cookbook. I don't mind that it told me the benefits of a gluten free diet, but I didn't appreciate the pages of medical science and comparisons between modern man and ancient man. The ridiculous pictures used to enhance the authors points topped it. I never made it to the recipes.
