Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Jilly and Jessie Lagasse grew up as the daughters of world famous chef Emeril Lagasse, but they often couldn't enjoy his tempting Creole-style home cooking: Both young women have gluten allergies. Like their feisty dad, they responded to their culinary challenge with unbridled gusto, learning to create flavorful meals that wouldn't endanger their well-being. The Gluten-Free Table represents the culmination of their search for healthy alternatives to gluten-rich family favorites and Southern classics. Their recipes for main courses, appetizers, soups, salads, sides, and desserts display the Lagasse flair for tasty inventiveness.

Publishers Weekly
Two daughters of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse (who contributes the foreword) follow gluten-free diets, one because of gluten sensitivity and one because of celiac disease. They both know how hard it can be to go gluten-free, but they write with optimism, and while they cover which foods to avoid and be conscious of for those avoiding gluten, they focus on the food that can be included in a gluten-free diet. The recipes, many of which clearly draw influence from the authors’ father’s intensely flavored and Southern-inspired cooking, include a mix of those that traditionally call for gluten-containing ingredients and those that are generally gluten-free, with no substitutions required. Plain Jane crab cakes feature gluten-free bread; mini goat cheese and fig pizzas and pumpkin spice muffins are among the recipes requiring a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend. Indian vegetable pakoras with cucumber raita and prosciutto-spinach chicken roll with lemon butter sauce would be gluten-free in almost any cookbook. Of course, plenty of recipes, including pancetta and sage potato pie and smothered pork chops showcase Emeril’s Original Essence Seasoning. Marketing aside, this is a thoughtful and flavorful cookbook for gluten abstainers. (Oct.)
From the Publisher
"The Lagasse girls definitely know fun and flavorful food and with this book, they're showing us all that gluten-free doesn't have to mean flavor-free. These awesome recipes will put the fun back on your gluten-free table and even the king himself, Emeril, throws in a few for good measure!" —Guy Fieri

"Now that I am also forced to cook gluten-free for my family, I am delighted to have this remarkable resource! Jilly & Jessie Lagasse's The Gluten-Free Table not only offers heartfelt advice but also delicious recipes that everyone can enjoy. With these ladies, the sky is truly the limit!" —Chef John Besh

"The Lagasse sisters share their delicious solutions and recipes for living a gluten free life. An easy, great cookbook to start with if gluten is a problem for you or a loved one." —Gale Gand

"Jilly and Jessie Lagasse have gone and done it. They've taken the warm, soulful food that connects them to their Dad and translated it into the language of gluten-free, so that we may have the pleasure of sharing both the food and the love, safely, with our own families. Thank you, Lagasse Girls!" —Nicole Hunn, author of Gluten-Free on a Shoestring
