The Glycemic Index Diet and Cookbook is an interesting look into how your diet can have long term effects on your health. It will help you understand the GI (Glycemic Index) of food and how to make alternative choices when dining out or cooking at home. It’s a good read for anyone that is trying to maintain or lose weight, without radically altering their current lifestyle.

I really enjoyed this cookbook!  The recipes are yummy and easy to follow.  The meal plan and shopping tips make it easy to follow the diet.  The book is filled with information on blood glucose  and how your blood sugar affects your health.  This cookbook is an awesome resource!

The Glycemic Index Diet Cookbook is a good introduction to this style of eating. There is a plethora of information about what consists of a high or low glycemic index score including a sample 14 day meal plan. Although the meals on the sample seem fairly light, hopefully they are more filling than they appear. The recipes in the main part of the book were fantastic and offered great diversity of choice. I particularly liked the Thai basil-mint chicken in lettuce leaves!

With various strategies, recipes, and dietary suggestions, the book makes a strong case for why to give this diet a try. It even gives samples of daily menus so as to get the reader's ball rolling. All things considered, its a good choice to help lose weight.

If you don’t know anything about the GI index (as I didn’t) you owe it to yourself (and your family) to buy this book. It will change the way you think about food and give you the charts, lists, and recipes you will need to make positive, healthy changes in the way you live.Eating foods that are lower in simple carbohydrates (the bad ones) can help lower your risk of developing diabetes, certain cancers, high blood pressure, even Alzheimer’s. Even if you only incorporate a few of these recipes into your weekly routine, it will be well worth your money and time.

This book highlights the basic facts of sugars, good and bad fats and carbohydrates. It tries to increase awareness of the ingredients and gives you substitutions for high GI foods like flour by substituting some ingredients like flour for oats. I wish there were more clear examples for healthier alcohol choices. The tables were kind of hard to follow at first but I got it eventually. The online table headers are hard to see. Some of the concepts were pretty basic and repetitive and others were contradictory. Interesting recipes, easy to follow with a variety of ingredients I would like to try to see if they actually taste good.

You will have to look up the word “glycemic” but it’s a no-brainer for all who need to keep an eye and control the level of sugar in their diets. Great help to understand simple and complex carbohydrates, what in the world is a “good fat”, and foods to avoid and or enjoy – the book is a simple yet packed treasure with plenty of charts of how much the Glycemic Index (GI) goes up depending on what you put in your mouth. I was happy that eggs and almonds are at zero! A 14-day-meal plan is well accompanied with recipes for 17 breakfasts, 10 snacks/appetizers, 15 soups/salads/sandwiches, 10 side dishes, 15 main dishes, and 10 desserts.

The Glycemic Index Diet Cookbook was great because it not only gave some great, creative recipes, but also informed me of what the glycemic index actually is and how to eat by it. I love cookbooks with an insightful introduction, and this cookbook gave me just that.

I enjoyed reading this book because it was informative and easy to read. I'm often turned off by the "language and science" behind dieting because its hard to understand. But this book provided lists, charts and recipes that we will actually use in our home. I'm looking to make my family healthier and I'm glad I found this book! The 2 week meal plan makes shopping easier for sure.

My grandmother has diabetes and seeing how she has to eat every so often is not an image I want to have for myself in the future.  The Glycemic Index Diet and Cookbook is a great informational handbook to help me along my path to avoiding the risk that I might have.  But it's not all gloom doom! This book, and the many recipes, had me smiling and getting excited for all the wonderful things I could cook! I love love love cooking, and so food is a part of my life.  This book is an increbily helpful guide that I will surely keep handy and recommend.

This text is one I’ve been waiting for all my life. I’ve been struggling with a sugar addiction since I was a child. I would struggle through total sugar abstinence, without ever achieving my goal of proper sugar and carb consumption. For anyone who is pre diabetic, has high blood-sugar or has a pre-disposition towards developing cancer, this book is a good choice. It makes managing your glycemic levels feel doable and not complicated. I appreciate the charts, meal plan and recipes. They are all straight forward. In the case of the recipes, you don't have to be a gourmet cook to achieve them, but they are tasty.

What is a Glycemic Index and how does it relate to your health? This book will explains how your body processes sugar (in many forms) and opens your eyes to just how your glycemic index levels can effect your body.  You will find 10 steps to follow and charts that show you what foods are better choices when planning your meals. A fourteen-day menu is provided, including desserts. Just because your watching your glycemic index/sugar intake doesn't mean you have to give up eating dessert..

I found this book not only an easy read, but also an informative one.   This book taught me about how certain foods once consumed, are converted into sugar and how foods with high sugar levels can lead to weight gain and put one at risk for other health issues.  For anyone diagnosed with diabetes or simply seeking a lifestyle change adding this book to your library will be a great asset.

I'm pre-diabetic and Diabetes runs in my family; plus I love charts. So the chapter on Glycemic Load Tables was the main thing that attracted me to get this book. The other information in Part One about blood glucose was pretty informative as well. It's a good little reference guide and the recipes aren't too shabby either.

The Glycemic Index Diet & Cookbook contains great information on how our food, specifically carbs is broken down and the effect it has on our blood glucose level. It's actually a handbook and cookbook in one. I love the book because it provides you with a list of foods and its Glycemic Index score. The higher the score, the faster your blood sugar rises after it is eaten... which leads to weight gain. There is also a chapter on the foods with low glycemic index scores, so if your goal is weight loss, this is a good chapter to follow.. Today, it's about being knowledgeable about the foods we eat and how they affect out body. If you are looking for a powerful, yet easy to understand guide, you'll enjoy "The Glycemic Index Diet and Cookbook...

With a full list of foods that are good as well as bad, the outside resources the book gives on top of all the great information inside it, it is hard to see where this wouldn't be a book that you would want to read to help get yourself healthy and stay that way, as well as share with everyone around you.
