This was a very thoughtful book. It is the story of a man, now an author, reflecting back to an adventure that he went on with his two best friends in the summer of 1983. It is written in first person through the eyes of thirteen year-old Danny Brent. He recounts how he and his best friend, Keith (The Bluesman), and Amelia, his first ever crush, venture out to a place called Goatman's. In the story, Goatman's is an old abandoned place on the outskirts of Corpus Christi, TX that is supposed to be haunted by "The Goatman," a creature that is half man and half goat. There, they get caught up in an adventure that involves a bunch of kids that have been kidnapped from their neighborhood. I found the book to be very entertaining and well written. It reminded me a good deal of Stephen King's "The Body," which was later turned into the movie "Stand By Me." This is a young adult book but I think that people of all ages would enjoy it We were all this young one and this book captures the wonderment of it beautifully.
