Overview

Does God's mercy really "endure forever," as the Bible says? As the people whose stories are told in this book have found, the answer is a wonderful, resounding YES! Yes, there is forgiveness for the unfaithful spouse. Yes, there is hope for the addict, for the abuser, for the corporate thief caught red-handed in his dishonesty. Whether it's a sin that has devastated other people's lives as well as our own, or simply poor choices that have robbed us of effectiveness and fulfillment, nothing about us ever takes God by surprise. And the good news is, not only is he able to bring the best out of the worst failures, but he wants to. If you could use a fresh start, The God Who Won't Let Go offers biblical insights that can help you align yourself with God's redemptive will for your life. It provides practical questions for reflection. And through true-life examples, it reveals a savior who will meet you in the midst of your circumstances . . . and flood your life with unexpected grace.

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Merrill (Sinners in the Hands of an Angry Church) believes that God is a God of second chances. Using a journalistic narrative style and personal profiles, Merrill examines the Bible's views on failure and relates stories about people who have, with God's help, bounced back from it. For example, Merrill tells the story of a young woman who was addicted to prescription drugs. Caught for stealing these kinds of drugs, she found herself in court, embarrassed, ashamed and repentant. Although her time in a drug-rehabilitation center failed to give her the strength to lead a life without drugs, her subsequent time in prison gave her the opportunity to attend chapel meetings and Bible studies and to turn her life around. Merrill says that she took advantage of this "second chance," and she now leads Bible studies for women at the county jail. Other stories demonstrate how God gives imperfect people chances to make fresh starts. Merrill's stories give a simplistic and predictable version of how redemption operates. (June)
