    The cookbook of cookbooks

If you are a novice to intermediate cook, or an expert cook that wants to expand your culinary horizons this is the book for you. The recipes are nearly foolproof and extremely good. The book provides a full colored photo of what the dish will look like when done. Although I will say for the baking recipes the pictures are more to what it ¿should look like¿. The step-by-step illustration of the cooking process makes even the more complex recipes easier to understand. My only reservation with the cookbook come from the fact that they do not list what ¿special¿ cooking utensils or equipment you will need to prepare the recipe. Requiring one who is working out of an under equipped kitchen to read the recipe carefully before proceeding ¿ which they should do anyway.

    The Best Cookbook Anywhere

My parents were very good cooks when I was growning up and always had a variety of cookbooks on the shelves. When my wife and I married in '82, we went to look for a cookbook to add to the recipies we had acquired from our parents. We liked this book because it gave us base information (measurements, cooking times for standard fare, storing time for frozen food, entire meal plans and the like.) We have used this book to wow our friends every Christmas with simple candy recipies like fudge, melt away mints and peanut brittle to add to our traditional fare. It has an amazing collection of dishes that are tasty and easy to prepare. We recently gave one to our son when he wanted a cookbook. He asked us to send him 'the bible'.

Good Housekeeping You've Done It Again!

I have always loved Good Housekeeping Cookbooks! I give them as gifts, especially to newly married, new cooks. It is a great foothold because Good Housekeeping teaches and illustrates everything!

    A must for all cooks!

This is the best cookbook I own, and the only one a new cook needs. I refer to it just about every week for inspiration as well as recipes. It is comprehensive, well organized, with a photo of just about all recipes, many illustrations of technique, and a wonderful microwave section. I have given many copies as gifts.

    Highly recommended

My mother gave me a copy of this book when I was married 25 years and 3 kids ago. I love to cook and bake and do so almost every single day. This is most definitely the best book for just beginning and experienced cooks. I compare new recipes to recipes in this book.

    Nice basic cookbook!

I bought this because I wanted a good, basic cookbook besides Joy of Cooking. The only recipe I've tried so far is the one for Fudgy Brownies, and next time I would cut the flour in half from 2 cups to one cup - because their brownies are rather cake-like, though very chocolate-y, and I like really chewy brownies. A nice cookbook to look through covering a lot of the basic American recipes.

    I Also Recommend:

The best non-specialized/general cookbook ever published.

I received this book in 1980 as a gift from my Mother. I am now 62 years old and collect cookbooks. Good Houskeeping Illustrated has been the most overall informative cookbook of my collection. And I have a LOT of cookbooks. It is my go to cookbook. This is a must have for everyone. It would makes an excellent wedding gift. I try to give one to all the youngsters in our family who are just starting out on their own, married or not.

AWESOME COOKBOOK, ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE FOUND.

I bought this cookbook when it originally came out in 1991 and absolutley love it. Its such a good book that when my wife and I divorced, she took the cookbook. It was the first one I HAD too add to my new collection. This book is awesome if you love to cook, is easy to use, and is a perfect starter book if you have a daughter or son thats going out on their own and just getting started.

My old stand-by, favorite cookbook, now ready for the next generation

I bought the original edition in 1980 and still use it as my first reference and for ideas and how-tos, but the book itself is showing its age. When my daughter, who was brought up on recipes from the book, asked for my bread recipe because the Joy of Cooking and Better Homes and Gardens recipes just didn't come out right, I told her that I always used the Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook. She asked me to scan to recipe and instructions, but giving her this updated edition is much better because she will have the entire book. Happy Birthday, Daughter!

    I love this book!!

I got this book almost thirty years ago when I was first married. The cover is now worn, the binding has tape on it, but its the first thing that I reach for when looking for a great recipe. My daughter is now on her own and I gave this to her as a gift. She was so happy to have a copy of her own now. She just loves it too. The best thing about this book is that there is a picture of each and every dish that there is a recipe for and you can see what you are cooking!!

    The very best

I have a lot of cookbooks and this is the only on I use. I have had it for years and it is falling apart. My mother in-law was at my house and saw it now she wants a copy. So I am here to get her her very own. That's a switch...

    Excellent

I bought this cook book when I got married over 18 years ago and could not be the great cook my family says I am without this book. It taught me how to cook and I rely on it to this day to help me make more creative dishes. My daughter wants me to put the book in my will to her.

    Most Incredible Cookbook..EVER!

I have the 1989 version of this cookbook & will be purchasing a new book only because after ALL these years...this is the book I have ALWAYS gone back to! My original cookbook has been used sooo much that pages are food stained and falling out but it is the one I always turn to! In ordering a new copy of this cookbook, now I can cut out the recipes from my older cookbook and enjoy a clean copy!! :) The recipes are simple and there is just so much information in this cookbook! I highly recommend it for someone at any level of kitchen assistance they may need!! Enjoy!!

    Easy and Outstanding Receipes

Having previously burned several meals, I was given this outstanding cookbook as a newlywed. Not only does it give step-by-step directions, but each and every receipe I have attemped, has been a delicious pleasure. I have since become quite the cook. For the past 23 years, it has easily been my favorite, and one I have highly recommened. I intend to purchase one for each of my daughters.
