Overview

Twenty-two year old Roxie Golightly is a fun and carefree spirit...until she marries a wealthy man and her role as a trophy wife leaves her isolated in a condo with an ironing board and an obsessive desire to impress people.

When her marriage ends after seven years, Roxie's identity is buried under layers of furniture polish and piles of designer shoes. She doubts she can ever be the person she once was.

But when Roxie's charmed life is turned upside down, her best-friend creates The Good Life List to help turn it back around. The instructions are simple: Complete each task on the Good Life List by the end of the summer.

With list in hand and the help of a sexy and charismatic guy from her past, Roxie is only a few check marks away from living the good life, even if it means getting thrown out of a bar or skinny-dipping in the neighbor's pool at 3am.

From Angie's Dreamy Reads:

"From the first chapter to the last I had a grin on my face that could not be wiped off. I fell in love with Roxie within a couple chapters, and once Jake entered the picture I was a goner. It was incredibly well written, relatable and fantastically funny. The absolute perfect book to escape in!!"

From the Boyfriend Bookmark:

"It had everything I love in a good book. It had the evil ex…who was a little nastier than anyone expected… the knight in shining armor that has been there forever…the good big brother…the best friend to push and encourage… I don’t even know where to start because I dumbfounded in the beginning, laughing in the middle and crying at the end. This book was so beautifully perfect."

"5 HUGE, WONDERFUL, AMAZING, I-need-to-think-of-more-awesome-words, stars!!!"

Meet the Author

I grew up in the Detroit area and moved to Wilmington, NC, after college to pursue a career in TV & Film. That's where I met a boy...and there was a wedding. And then came another boy, this one even cuter. And I gave up on my "pipe dream" to be a wife and mom. But I got bored and it was either write something or clean the house. So I wrote. This is my first novel. And my house is a mess.

I have a hard time relating to characters in books, but I had no issues with relating to Roxie. Jodie painted the perfect picture for me to do so. And being from Michigan I totally loved all the references; CMU, Ann Arbor, and most of all Meijer. I got a good kick out of that last one! I hope Jodie plans on writing more books! This girl will read them!

This debut novel by Jodie Beau is such a quick, refreshing read. I was hooked at the opening line and couldn't wait to follow Roxie through her journey. I found myself laughing out loud several times....that's a first for me while reading a book! I can not wait for a sequel.

I really enjoyed The Good Life. I read it in about 4-5 days which for having a baby and a lot going on is super fast for me. I loved the relationship of Jake and Roxie and how they developed over the years. Although I did have a little issue connecting with Roxie or at least I couldn't picture her in my head so I couldn't fully get lost in the book. To be honest. The ending was a twist also that I expected but to the extent that Jodie wrote to (she added a few extra turns)Also it was taken place (majority) in Michigan which I love of course. Would I recommend to a friend? I sure would. :-) It's a good, light and quick read and you can't help but to love the people in it.. all except Caleb. ha ha

I just finished The Good Life by Jodie Beau. I didn't think I was going to like it because it was being described as a chick book. But it was laugh out loud funny for this middle aged man. Its the story of a woman who leaves New York (city of her dreams) and moves back home to the midwest after an unexpected divorce to start her life over. Her best friend from New York gives her a Good Life List to perform over the summer to help her find herself and return to the person she use to be. Its part comedy, part romance, part love letter to New York. I honestly don't remember ever laughing out loud before while reading a book. Its an easy fast read. I read it in one day. There are several books on B&N, Nook titled The Good Life. The cover of this book shows a young woman throwing her hands up in exuberance as she rides in an open red convertible down the road. The cover perfectly portrays the exuberance you'll feel as you journey with Roxie as she rediscovers who she is and who she wants to become and who she finds to help her enjoy the good life!

“I was more of a life planner. I didn’t sit by and idly watch life happen to me. I grab the wheel and let me happen to life.” (9) Roxie is quirky, neurotic, and has a strange obsession with the “high” life. The ode to shoes was bleak and annoying. She is strict about how she wants her life played out, but one thing she didn’t plan was a divorce. What she doesn’t realize is that this was her chance to do the things she’s been sitting around planning. The “good life” is the single life. The list was bold, daring, and fun! “I’m not gonna like you any less if you tell me what’s on your mind. If you ever have something to say, say it. If there’s something you want to know, ask me. If you’re mad about something, tell me. It doesn’t have to be complicated.” (118) Love Jake! He was a straight-up, honest, and caring guy, and what an amazing summer they have! Funny and witty, The Good Life is a story about letting your hair down and having fun. A sweet, light-hearted romance.
