In THE GRAND OPENING, USA Today Bestselling Author Ava Miles brings us back to Dare Valley...

When Peggy McBride moves to Dare Valley, Colorado, the last thing she wants is to meet a man. If she’s learned one thing from her divorce, it’s that love is a messy business, and as a single mom and the new deputy sheriff, she has her hands full. But when hotel magnate and poker player Mac Maven moves to town, she becomes enthralled by the very last man she would ever consider dating…

Millionaire Mac Maven has come to Dare with ambitious plans for his new project, the restoration of The Grand Mountain Hotel as a boutique poker venue. Only one person offers him a less than warm welcome: Deputy Sheriff Peggy McBride, who is dead set against gambling. But although Peggy’s a fierce opponent, Mac senses a tenderness and passion within her that he longs to free. Having helped his sister raise her teenage son, he understands Peggy, and can see past her tough-as-nails exterior.

When a threat to Mac’s hotel surfaces, he and Peggy must join forces to find out who’s responsible. Working together ignites the white-hot connection between them, and their cooperation takes a decidedly personal turn. But can Mac convince Peggy to set their differences aside and take a gamble on love?

A must-read inspiring romance with a bit of suspense The Grand O

A must-read inspiring romance with a bit of suspense
The Grand Opening, the third book in Ava Miles’ Dare Valley series, was the first that I received to review (though I waited to read it until I finished books one and two) and is my absolute favorite of the series.

Yes, I wanted to know more about the new deputy sheriff in town, single mother and straight arrow, Peggy McBride. It was clear from their brief interactions in the previous stories that Mac Maven, whose plan to restore the old mountain hotel to its former glory includes top-level poker tournaments, and staunch anti-gambler Peggy have definite sparks flaring between them. So, I couldn’t wait to read “their” story.

Miles creates two wonderfully complicated and fascinating protagonists in Mac and Peggy. Long after I turned the last page and closed the book, I reflected on the challenges to their romance. The levels of trust and leaps of faith that each of them had to face. But most of all recalled the inspirational quality of their bond.

This is the book, to me, that showcases Miles as a writer. If you were to read no other book by her, choose this one. (And I’ll guarantee you’ll read all the others too.) After reading The Grand Opening, Ava Miles was added to my “must-buy” list and her books have a permanent home on my virtual shelf of treasured titles to reread.

Yes, The Grand Opening resonated strongly for me. Not just for all the points I mentioned, but also for the tightness of the story, the added mystery and intrigue, and for creating the character of Mac Maven, who has to be one of my favorite book boyfriends.

(I received an eARC from the publisher through NetGalley for use in this review and purchased a personal copy of this book.)

Loved this story about Peggy and Mac, well written and a place anyone would love to stay at while on vacation.
Do not want to give away the story to anyone, but take the time to sit and read and enjoy it.
    Great job Ava.

    Review:

"The Grand Opening" by Ava Miles was a wonderful romantic story of Peggy McBride and Mac (Maverick) Maven. This is the authors third novel in her Dare Valley series. We find that both of these two are new to Dare Valley, Colorado. Peggy was divorced, now a single mother that had moved to Dare to be closer to her brother and family. Peggy loved her job of being a deputy sheriff and it seems like all was going well for her until he meets us with Mac. Why was this? Mac was handsome and rich and had moved into Dare with his sister and nephew to restore 'The Grand Mountain Hotel as a boutique poker' venue and for some reason this deputy sheriff was against any form of gambling. Mac was well know for his 'High Stakes poker games.' What had happen in Peggy's life that caused her to feel so negative about gambling and had set her nerves on edge? However, there still seemed to be some 'tenderness and passion' that went on between these two when they were together but they were definitely on separate sides when it came to Mac's business. It was obvious that there was something that had gone on with Peggy that was holding her back that keeps her from wanting to live life to its fullest.

This was a very moving story where there were many subplots in this novel that was going on...such as: Mac and Peggy comes together in the rescue operation in that involved a pie loving moose, ... with Marc's sister Abbie and his best friend Rhett Butler Blaylock,... a teenager reckless driving and the hotel having a bomb threat during a poker game. You will really have to keep up because this story moves very fast which makes for a good read. To get all the answers to the above you must pick up "The Grand Opening" to see how this author will bring it out the well written story to the reader. Be ready for a good read with a read filled with humor, 'quirky townspeople' and a loving romance that finally comes to light. I love the hero in this story being such a 'fighter, lover and best friend.' The heroine gave me a headache at time with all of her 'love hate relationship with Marc,' however in the end it all ....well pick up the novel to see for yourself!

The characters were all so developed, well rounded and so very colorful only making this read a captivating read that once you started it you will not be able to put it down until the end.

I found "The Grand Opening" was definitely a story of one's family coming first in this well written series by this author that I would definitely recommend as a good read.

    Very Highly Recommended

The Grand Opening picked up where French Roast and Nora Roberts Land left off with the wonderful characters of Dare Valley. Her characters are full of life and well rounded. I highly recommend this talented author.

    Welcome Back to Dare Valley!

Author Ava Miles has done it again! The Grand Opening is the third installment in her Dare Valley series, and quite possibly the best one yet! Filled with humor, a pie-loving moose, the quirky townspeople of Dare Valley and the kind of romantic tension that is fun to read about, Ms. Miles is fast becoming one of my favorite, light, contemporary romance writers! She is making a huge chick lit fan out of me with her talent for creating "the big hook," the one that pulls you in and won’t let go until that very last word!

When a wealthy, self-made gambling man sets his sights on one of the town’s sheriff’s deputies, you can bet you’ll be in for an arresting time! (Sorry, I had to say it) Peggy McBride is a single mom, raising her young son on her own after being burned in the past by a nasty marriage and divorce. She wants a nice, quiet, safe town to raise her boy, but now a new hotel/casino is coming to town and along with it, is the owner, gambler Mac Maven, all handsome and rich and something about him just sets Peggy’s nerves on edge. Is it that he represents what she sees as trouble in her quiet town, or is it that he is causing trouble in her heart? How does he seem to show up at just when Peggy needs help? Trouble does come to Dare Valley, and Mac’s hotel is the reason. Could it be that Peggy was right about Mac being trouble? But is that really all bad?

Ava Miles’ Dare Valley world is a wonderful place to visit, the inhabitants are warm, real and just flawed enough to be a joy to meet. Take a walk down the streets, see the surrounding nature, feel the sense of community, the heat of the romantic tension, and consider it a mini-vacation with a little mystery on the side.

The Grand Opening is perfect reading for the beach, in front of the fireplace, or even as light bedtime reading. The worse that could happen is that you may dream about the pie eating moose!

A review copy was generously given to me by the author in exchange for my honest review.

Peggy McBride knows that she is a good mother and Deputy Sheriff

Peggy McBride knows that she is a good mother and Deputy Sheriff in Dare Valley, CO.
She also knows she cannot abide gambling so Mac Maven is the last person she ever
plans to be friendly with, yet here he is again right in her face.  Great plan if you can get
it to work but Peggy is having some issue staying away from Mac and not wanting to
     wrap her arms around him.

Bad family history has made Peggy leery of a man that will place everything they
own on the cards in their hand.  Mac seems to be a good person but he not only gambles
he owns the whole dang place where it all comes together.  Mac has always had a way with
the cards and women but Peggy is a bit prickly.  He does not see this as a lost cause because
she is turning out to be a worthy opponent and worth fighting for in order to win her heart.
She is not his usual type, but those women wanted the one thing Peggy does not care about, his money.

For both of them family comes first and taking care of all the details that go along with that.
Even the extended family may need help occasionally, which seems to give them the right to
butt into whatever is going on with Mac and Peggy.  There are a lot of opinions but at the end of the day,
only two people know if this relationship is on the path for long-term status or short-term explosion.

This latest book in the Dare Valley series is a continuation of love, family, relationships.  It shows
with great splendor how one man and one woman can come together and shake things up successfully.
