For the fifteen million grandmothers who are keepers of family history and memories, The Grandmother Book is a lively and timely way to record your story for future generations.
* Andy and Susan Hilford present the perfect way for grandmothers of all ages to pass along a grandmother's story. The story is one that recounts coming-of-age moments, life-changing events, a look back at what was, family anecdotes and historical insight. With thoughtful, surprising, at times unexpected, and provocative questions, this book is directed to the new generation of baby boomer grandmothers. From early memories of her childhood, to the time she began her own family, to the present as she watches her family continue to grow, this valuable, prompted keepsake ensures that the thoughts, moments, events, images, and ideas that shaped her life are collected in her voice and in her hand for a precious audience.
* This grandmother's book of memories includes spaces for special photographs, report cards, family tree, and other cherished memorabilia and keepsakes, along with thoughtful, amusing, memory-nudging prompts to kick-start grandmother's storytelling
* A perfect gift on Grandparent's Day, Mother's Day, wedding anniversaries, and birthdays, the book's hardcover binding and decorative four color art ensure its status as a written family treasure for generations to come.

What a wonderful idea. Andy and Susan Hilford have created a book in which grandmothers pen their stories for their grandchildren. This little book will be passed from generation to generation just as baby books are. It might be called a guide to creating your autobiography, grandma. The Hilfords guide is gentle, humorous and thorough. It is fun. I suspect that the biggest problem their collaborators 'grandmothers' will have is deciding to do one for each grandchild or one for every household. My wife has decided to do one for each of our four grandchildren.

I just got this book and I love it! It is fun and charming and I know that my grandchildren will love it and pass it on to succeeding generations. I wish that my grandmothers had written this book for me and my children. I am buying and writing one for each of my grandchildren. It is a family treasure. I hope the authors write one for grandfathers as well.

I got this book for my mother to share with my children. Not having been raised in the United States, there were a lot of topics which were not relevant and sort of embarrasing for her to answer. Mostly, they were about marriage to my dad, having babies, and dating. In fact, some grandmothers may not be willing to delve into such detail. It's a wonderful format but I ended up returning it and just made a similar book on my own.

I got this for my mother to keep track of what my two boys are doing (no easy feat)! Well, at least before she got this wonderful book. Now everything is in it's place, preserved for generations to come. A great gift idea.

Since its up to the Great Grandma's and the Grandma's to pass along vaulable information to future generations then this is a good start. This has almost everything in one book. It's nice to pass on to your grandchildren. I loved this book.

I wish my grandmother would have had a book like this! My mother and mother-in law loved their book, but they loved the fact that they were going to be grandmother more!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Your parents may be young to believe themselves grandparents that need to record their lives, but getting memories on paper is always a worthwhile event. I gave this book to both grandmothers of my 3-month-old for a Mother's Day gift, and both have looked at their "homework" as a wonderful task.
Only downfall is that some sections seem to apply to things more in our lifetimes than our parents (college graduation, jobs outside the home, etc.), but the introduction recommends only filling in what's applicable, striking through things and writing in new, and otherwise making the book your own.

This is a wonderful idea- I am getting one for each of my 6 grandchildren. It will be a family history answering all their questions which Susan and Andy Hilford have so thoughtfully provided. This is a book for generations to come to know where they are from and who loved them.

The pictures are fun - and the questions are even more fun. What a great way for the kids to get to know my mom. I wish this book existed back when I was growing up. I'd love to know more about who my grandmother was. I'm glad that my kids will grow up to know the amazing person my mother is, beyond being their grandmom.

I thought it would be hit or miss because it is so different. But this book was a win twice over. First with my mother in law, who loved this book so much. She tells all her friends about it and the incredibly fun time she had making it. And Second with my daughter who cherishes this book from her grandmother like its the next harry potter.
