    A wonderful children's story.

The Great Bellybutton Cover-up is a beautiful children's book written by Susan Ross with wonderful illustrations by Megan Stiver. Violet, a cute wooly sheep wins first place in a beauty contest at the County Fair. But when Farmer Shepherd sheers her glamorous wool coat leaving her with a bare bellybutton she is embarrassed-she must find a way to hide her bellybutton! Searching around the fair Violet finds many ways to cover-up including cotton candy, feathers and balloons. But she gets into trouble with all of these. At last she finds herself in a pile of wool that children are using to make tiny sheep. ¿Hey, this is my wool!¿ she exclaims and is delighted because she is buried in her own wool and no one can see her bellybutton! She is also happy that her wool is being used to make others happy and realizes that Farmer Shepherd shaved her wool off for a good purpose. She comes away happy and proud. A bonus section in the book includes instructions on how to create your own sheep to go with the story.

Children will love the 32 pages filled with Violet¿s adventures. I am a retired preschool teacher and director and would include this book among the best I have read. The story as told will hold the attention of children, and the illustrations fit the story perfectly, even capturing Violets emotions during her distressful and finally happy adventure. Susan Ross has written a wonderful book for children and Megan Stiver has complimented the book with her beautiful illustrations. The bonus section on how to create your own sheep will be a fun activity for parents or teachers to share with the children.

    Filled with the fun adventures

Reviewed by Rita V for Readers Favorite

The Great Bellybutton Cover-up is a delightful children's book written by Susan Ross. Violet is a beautiful and wooly sheep who wins first place at the County Fair in the sheep beauty pageant. She is devastated when Farmer Shepherd sheers her glamorous wool coat leaving her with a bare bellybutton. Violet must overcome the odds and find innovative ways to dress herself while hiding her bellybutton. She then discovers the reason of why Farmer Shepherd needed to shave her wool off and she comes away with a sense of pride in knowing she has done a good deed. Included in this book is a bonus section that includes instructions on how to create your own sheep to go with the story.

This children's book contains 32 pages filled with the fun adventures of Violet the sheep. It is a fresh new story that I have not read about before and I absolutely enjoyed the concept. The wording flows smoothly and it is very easy for children to comprehend. The illustrations are bright, fun and compliment the story perfectly. The sketches detail the facial expressions on Violet's face intricately, capture her emotions and bring added significance to the story. I loved the variety of emotions that Violet experiences and her creative ways to dress herself. I couldn't help but laugh at the silliness and I know that children will truly love this wonderful book by Susan Ross. Also, the bonus section on how to create your own sheep is very helpful and will be a fun activity for parents or teachers to make with the children.
