The Great EMI Recordings

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Blair Sanderson
Under the auspices of Warner Classics, the Great EMI Recordings of mezzo-soprano Janet Baker are presented on 20 CDs, which cover her extensive repertoire from Baroque to modern music. Baker came to international prominence in the 1960s, and she endeared herself to listeners with her warm tone, clear diction, and versatility in a variety of vocal works, which included music by Monteverdi, Scarlatti, Schubert, Mahler, and Britten. Many of these performances have been reissued, but roughly a quarter of the set offers recordings for the first time on CD, including essential performances with Raymond Leppard and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
