Children's Literature - Laura Dekle
Geronimo Stilton is at it again as a cave mouse named Geronimo Stiltonoot. This addition to the “Geronimo Stilton: Cavemice” series is full of energy, clever puns, cheese references, and metaphors. It alludes to the mouse version of ancient Olympics and several different types of dinosaurs in its telling of the great mystery of who stole the tigers’ flag. Every page pops with exciting illustrations and the text portion of each page is colorful. Each book about Geronimo Stilton features him as a newspaper journalist for the time period or environment of the story. Being a writer makes him a faithful storyteller, but also models to students the importance of recording one’s observations. To no surprise, Geronimo does find out who stole the tigers’ flag before it’s too late, as he and his friend and partner, “Hercule Poirat,” win the last game of The Stone Age Games. As in all of the books in this series, the font, size, and color of important or new words are changed in the text for emphasis. This book kept up with the pace of the others in the series and is a good fit for intermediate readers, especially in its introduction and attention to vocabulary words. Reviewer: Laura Dekle; Ages 6 to 12.
