The Greatest Hits

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
Whitney Houston is a phenomenal singer, and nothing hammers that fact home in grander style than this unconventional greatest-hits package, which splits the songbird's awe-inspiring work into two discs: "Throw Down" and "Cool Down." Stuffed with Whitney's gorgeous ballads, the "Cool Down" platter features the precious "Saving All My Love for You" from her self-titled 1985 debut and the BODYGUARD soundtrack's ever-chilling ballad "I Will Always Love You." It also delivers several brand-new songs, including a steamy duet with Latin hearthrob Enrique Iglesias "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" and a "my man done me wrong" pairing with Deborah Cox "Same Script, Different ...

Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
Whitney Houston is a phenomenal singer, and nothing hammers that fact home in grander style than this unconventional greatest-hits package, which splits the songbird's awe-inspiring work into two discs: "Throw Down" and "Cool Down." Stuffed with Whitney's gorgeous ballads, the "Cool Down" platter features the precious "Saving All My Love for You" from her self-titled 1985 debut and the BODYGUARD soundtrack's ever-chilling ballad "I Will Always Love You." It also delivers several brand-new songs, including a steamy duet with Latin hearthrob Enrique Iglesias "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" and a "my man done me wrong" pairing with Deborah Cox "Same Script, Different Cast". Although her vocal prowess is unbeatable, the quirky Houston has always taken a backseat, personality-wise, to dance-floor-driven divas such as Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. But Houston proves she knows how to get her party on with the "Throw Down" disc's club-ready remixes of "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Learned from the Best." Another surprise treat is a revamped version of the sassy, up-tempo "If I Told You That" from 1998's multi-platinum MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE, featuring George Michael -- a diva in his own right. Released at a time when Houston is plagued with rumors about her personal life, this double CD turns a remarkable trick. Astutely comprised of new tracks, revitalized old ones, and ageless classics, it's the most dynamic greatest-hits collection of all.
All Music Guide
It should come as no surprise that a woman who counts Dionne Warwick as a cousin, Aretha Franklin as a family friend, and whose mother was a legendary session and gospel singer, became a successful R&B act. More surprising is that it took 17 years after her first signing with Arista to produce her first hits compilation. These songs are neatly compartmentalized into "Cool Down" and a "Throw Down" sessions, the former featuring ballads such as "Saving All My Love for You," the latter showcasing remixes of uptempo singles such as "How Will I Know." Four new songs, three of which are duets, are also included. At the time of release, her golden voice had led to an amazing 16 number one hits, an Emmy, Grammys, and several notable collaborations.

    LOVE WHITNEY!

I wasn't especially pleased with the CD because its a two CD package and one CD is perfect but the other one with some songs I really wanted are mixed instead of the original version. It's not what I wanted but the other one is great!

    GREAT ALBUM......

I ONLY GIVE THIS ALBUM 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5 BECAUSE OF THE THE SECOND DISC. ALL THE TRACKS WERE DONE IN MIX STYLE INSTEAD OF HOW THE ORGINALS THAT WERE RELEASED. AT LEAST THAT IS HOW THE AMERICAN RELEASE OF THIS ALBUM IS. A BETTER VERSION OF THIS ALBUM IS THE JAPANESE RELEASE, WHERE THEY KEEP ALL THE ORGINAL RELEASES INSTEAD OF THE MIXES OF ALL HER BIGGEST HITS. SO IF YOU WANT A BETTER VERSION OF THIS ALBUM I WOULD SUGGEST THE JAPANESE RELEASE VERSION. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU HAVE TO PAY A LOT FOR THE IMPORT. BUT IT IS WORTH THE PRICE...

The Diva of Divas in the 1980-1990´s But not anymore.

Whitney Houston sounds amazing on this 35 track Greatest hits album that awesome voice of hers full 10 octav range i think or 8,Where is she now. Whitney Houston can´t belt out that magical powers anymore it´s forever gone. And it´s sad,i was a big fan since of age 11 in 1985 until 2000 when she sang the beautiful duet Could I have This Kiss Forever with latin star Enrique Iglesias i love that song as all the songs of the great 15 years from 1985-2000. But only 2 years later she sounds terrible straind and so hurch like she have a cold it´s just horrible and painful listen to her now and so sad.The Biggest female vocalist of all time is gone forever and Celine Dion has taken her place and Mariah Carey as well. You fans of Whitney Houston should by this album and listen to how she sounded great and left off the new album it is just awful and not vocally good she is trying to reach the high notes but she can´t do it.

    To my dismay!

This double cd is not what you think it is. It's just a bunch of disco-esque style of her old hits. I thought i was getting a great bargain buying this CD, but boy was I wrong.

    Whitney's Greatest Hits is a Must-Have

If you are a fan of Whitney Houston, or simply a lover of great music, you will enjoy this cd!!!! Arista did a wonderful job of blending some of Whitney's greates songs into one 2- disc album. The first disc, bursting with ballads like ''All At Once'' and ''Didn't We Almost Have It All'', will carry you back to Whitney's earliest years. You'll be swept into the nineties with more recent hits like ''My Love Is Your Love'' and ''Same Script Different Cast'' (duet with Deborah Cox). The second disc is filled with explosive dance remixes to some of her most familiar songs, like ''I Wanna Dance With Somebody'' and ''How Will I Know?''. Out of my entire cd collection, this album is truly my favorite. I strongly encourage you to go out and buy it today!!

    Nothing Fantastic

CD #1 is great because it has all of her songs when she used to have that powerful voice. CD #2 reminds me of the music that has to dancing in the GAP. It's all of her songs with a Latin/House music beat. If you're a big Whitney fan, then you will be disappointed.

Look, Whitney should have covered Diana Ross's record 'Swept Away'...

...because she Swept Away with my MONEY! The first CD in this two CD package is wonderful. Most of the big hits is on it. I was also pleased with the duet with Jermaine Jackson, If I Say Your Eyes Are Beautiful, this is the first time the song appeared on CD. The only negative on the first disc is the inclusion of the songs from her My Love Is Your Love album. I didn't care for the album. Whitney's vocal style didn't gel with the hip hop music form. I have the feeling that because the album wasn't a huge seller that this was Arista and Whitney's way of recouping some money. The second disc is full of tired house mixes of hits that should have appeared in their original album version form. Not only that, but all of the remixes sound exactly the same! There's nothing new, fresh, or cutting edge about the remixes. Truth be told, all are straight up 'disco' versions, the kind that was popular back in the late 70's and early 80's, you know those 12' versions. Needless to say, I was not pleased. But that's OK, Miss Whitney, you swept away with my money this time, it won't happen a second time.

    WHITNEY IS THE GREATEST

I love both of the Cd's but my favorites are FINE AND SAME SCRIPT, DIFFERENT CAST. Every night I dance to FINE and groove to SAME SCRIPT, DIFFERENT CAST. I have every one of Whitney's CD's, I just love her voice. Take care of yourself Whitney, please.

    whitney at her best!!!!!

OK, I AM PROBABLY THE BIGGEST WHITNEY FAN OUT THERE SO EVERYONE MAY NOT AGREE WITH ME! HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT WHITNEY REALLY OUT DID HER SELF ON THIS LAST ALBUM. SHE IS TERRIFIC! HER STYLE AND VERSITILITY ARE OUTSTANDING. I HAVE EVERY ALBUM WHITNEY EVER MADE, AND I'M PLEASED TO HEAR THAT SHE DID NOT PUT AN IDENTICAL VERSION OF EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM. SHE REALLY SCORED BIG POINTS BUY USING REMIXES INSTEAD OF ORIGINALS. THE REMIXES ADD LOTS OF FLAVA TO THE ALBUM, AND MAKE IT APPEAR TO BE SOMETHING WE'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE. SHE IS TRULY A MUSICAL LEGEND, AND SHE'S PROBABLY FAR FROM DONE!!!! KEEP IT COMING WHITNEY, I'M PROUD OF YOU GIRL!!!! OH, BEFORE I FORGET, THE NEW SONGS ARE ALSO HOT!!!

    The Greatest from the Greatest

Whitney rules in this supurb 2 CD package of her greatest hits. From 'You Give Good Love' to her duet with Deborah Cox, the first CD of ballads shows Whitney's incredible range and vocal maturity over her career. And the second CD shows Whitney's ability to cut lose on her uptempo tracks and remixes. Whitney ranks supreme as today's true comtemporary diva of soul and pop music!
