J. Michael Veron's tale about one of golf's most talented and mysterious figures - and the man who solves this mystery - is a rare triumph in golf fiction. Like few others before it, The Greatest Player Who Never Lived is much more than a golf book - it's about perseverance over adversity, and friendship over abandonment. Without a doubt, this beautifully written, heart-warming story is certain to be enjoyed by all lovers of exceptional fiction. The Greatest Player Who Never Lived...is a winner.

If you have ever played just one round of golf, and appreciate clear, spare writing with a touch of To Kill a Mockingbird, you will love this book.
Mike Snider
The Greatest Player Who Never Lived is a fictional tale that mixes crime, mystery and courtroom drama against a background of golf history.
USA Today
Seattle Post
It is dual parts John Grisham and John Feinstein, a legal mystery with golf backbone. I kept checking the front disclaimer to make sure the book was a fictional account. This book is a keeper.

    Great Premise But Disappointing Results

A wonderful premise--young law clerk organizing Bobby Jones's discarded legal files from long ago discovers secret relationship with mysterious golfer--turns into a made-for-TV-movie story with shallow characters and neatly packaged endings. True golf enthusiasts will be annoyed, especially considering the authors position with the USGA, with his multiple errors describing the holes at Augusta National (the 1st is a dog-leg right (not left) and nothing but empty land is to the left of the fairway bunkers on the 18th) and disappointed by his inability to make Bobby Jones something other than a cliche.

    A fun read

Great book a little something for everybody, even if you are not a golfer. Also enjoyed the authors clear and concise writing style. Would highly recommend

Part Grisham, Part Golf, All Entertainment!

From the first few pages my interest was grabbed and I couldn't put this book down. I'm not into golf, but the story of Beau Stedman and his relationship with lawyer/ golf legend Bobby Jones is as compelling a mystery as any James Joyce story.
