Overview

With these words, dountless test pilot Hal Jordan came to wield the greatest power in the universe -- the Green Lantem! Jordan was not the first to bear the mantle of the Emerald Gladiator. Alan Scott battled Nazis and costumed villains under that moniker during the Golden Age. But his day had come and gone. His light, as it were, had faded.

Then came the Silver Age.

With the success of the revamped Flash, DC editor Julius Schwartz decided that it was time to bring back another Golden Age favorite. With a new identity and a new look, the updated Green Lantern immediately struck a chord with fans who clamored for tales of adventure and ingenuity. After three wildly successful appearances in Showcase, Hal was given his own eponymous book.
