Overview

HE CAUGHT THE PIRATE. HE DID THE RIGHT THING. HE’LL REGRET IT.

**ILLUSTRATED VERSION**

Captain of the Temple Police is not an easy job. Gerard wasn't expecting it to be easy…but he also didn't expect to have to fight off the Priestess's overtures at every turn. While he isn't against killing, torture seems dishonorable, and a visit to the dungeons leaves Gerard feeling more than a little sympathy for the pirates he's been ordered to capture.

Nevertheless, if he's to protect his gentle, talented wife, Gerard must do his job and eliminate the anti-wyvern pirates. He's made a valuable friend and ally in the wily Admiral of the Temple Sea Watch. Together, they track down the charismatic pirate leader, Gwain, who agrees to meet with them. However, Gwain's chosen site for for their parley is a dangerous island gamepark where the stakes are high, and everyone is prey.

Flames is the second book in the Cowry Catchers 5-part series. The books are:

Embers
Flames
Ashes
Out of the Ashes
Shores Beyond the World

Warning: This is an illustrated series for grown-ups. It includes beautiful, whimsical artwork, because adults deserve pretty pictures, too. However, the explicit elements of the story escalate as the series progresses. There are sexual scenes and situations in these books, as well as types of violence not usually found in children’s books. These books are not intended for children or young teens.

60,000-word book is DRM-free and carefully formatted. It includes 11 character portraits, 16 full-page illustrations, and a map.

Editorial Reviews

Burning Zeppelin Experience - Mark Stone
The world of Panamindorah, where The Guild of the Cowry Catchers is set, is clearly huge, deep, and old, and Hilton has so far done a good job implying the weight and depth . . . . But, the setting isn’t what really does it for me about The Guild of the Cowry Catchers. It’s the characters. The beautiful, beautiful characters. . . . The perfect management of rising, cresting, and descending tensions in these scenes is a testament to Hilton’s skill.

I am reading my way through all of Ms. Hilton's books and she continues to deliver top-notch fantasy fiction in a detailed world populated by unique individuals so muti-layered you find yourself identifying and caring for them regardless of their species, serious character flaws and ruthless behavior. As this series progresses we discover and begin to understand the how and why of who they are at present. I love that the further I read this series very few characters can be labeled and a good or bad guy. The majority are somewhere in the gray area and so can startle me at times by their choices, yet given thought I can see it was there in the character just had previohsly only been hinted at. I love the way Ms. Hilton writes the stories and charatcters; as I read her words, I see the video playing in my head thanks to the detailed world she has built.
