Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-- A brief overview of the crisis in the Persian Gulf, liberally sprinkled with color photos and maps. In broad strokes, the origins of the Iran-Iraq conflict, considering political, economic, and religious issues, are covered. International involvement is discussed, focusing on oil interests and weapons sales. ``Irangate'' receives mention, with a corresponding photo of Oliver North. The information given, although general, is succinct, unbiased, and accurate through 1987. This is a good introduction to a complex situation with major international implications. A good source for reports, it includes a ``Hard Facts'' page and a brief index. The attractive format is a plus. For older readers, Lisa Manetti's Iran and Iraq: Nations at War (Watts, 1986), gives more detail. --Ann Welton, University Child Development School, Seattle
